Hello all, just announcing the status of our new game, The Anarchy!

The project began in October, having formed the idea with a friend of mine, (the DBPro programmer).

The Anarchy is an RPG/FPS, based in the Medieval Ages, more exactly during the Civil War (1135-1154). This is from where the game's name originated. The camera modes are similar to that of the Elder Scrolls series, where one can switch between first and third person modes.

Your character begins as a young adult, in the village of Overton (all set in Middle Aged England). From there you are recruited into Earl Bartholemew's army against 'Emperess' Maud, who is attempting to overthrow King Stephne, for whom you are fighting for under the Earl. Then, as time goes on, there is a wide range of quests which you can do, for which you will be paid, or given some form of reward.
You will be able to buy yourself armour, purchase propery, own a wool business etc.

Here are a few screenshots of the first village as it is at the moment. (Still under development..)

EDIT: SCROLL DOWN A FEW THREADS TO SEPUKKU TO SEE

If you would like more information on the real Anarchy, please follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anarchy

you can't use HTML on these posts; type [ img ] (without the spaces) then type the image URL then type [ /img ] (again without the spaces)

EDIT: that said, those are some pretty sexy pictures. How far have you got with the actual game so far?

This looks very promising, whats the polycount on those chains though? It looks like a huge amount, or the object smoothing is doing it's job well.

Looks very nice, but it looks like the inside of the fountain has alot of texture stretching.

the inside the fountain bit looks like a flat plain, i think it's meant to be water.

the trees look great, mabye switch to a higher res image for the leaf texture when you get really close.

Nice work!

looks really nice! but as someone said before, the fountain looks as it has way too much polys. as it is wip i will not talk about the cottages texture, lets see how its continuing. good luck.

Is that Cartography Shop 4.0 at work?

I like how this is shaping up so far, I'll be following this game . Since it's based on an actual historical event/ period, the game design must've been a breeze hehe. Not enough people make games based on real world events, imo.

This is actually 3D World Studio, not Cartography Shop, as I find it easier to use!

Vorconan, to answer your question about the chains, I actually cannot remember what the polys were, in fact, I'm not sure how to check in 3DWS!
Does anyone know how?

Green7, you were saying about the cottage texture? Well, the cottage isn't one single model, but is a load of boxes using the 3DWS modelling resources, and yes, I am currently on a quest for a reasonably good texture artist, because I really do need one!

The game design was fun to make, seeing as I thought of it after reading The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follet! His story aspired me to create this game!
(I will put his name in the credits, before you launch the copyright arguement)

We've got some more screenies coming, but I am still rendering them!

On the level design front, I've almost completed Overton, which is the players' home village. I'm probably going to begin work on the countryside now, which will be the transition between Overton and Earlscastle, which is where the game really begins! I'll also upload some screenies of the counryside and Earlscastle in the next post, so watch this space!

the screenie with the character in is a low-quality in-game screenshot, but the ones nearer the top of the thread are renders from 3D World Studio!
I was suprised at the quality myself!

just a tip: even out your poly counts on your objects (especially that fountain)

specifically:
1) the chains can be WAY lower poly while losing almost no detail. remember, people are more likely to look at this from a distance rather than as close to it as you are in your modeling program.

2) the bricks on the fountain shouldn't be individual meshes (unless there is some purpose for it). make it all one mesh with 1 texture and it will still look good. and if you have shader support, you can use normal mapping to make each stone look even more individual.

3) and make sure you make a LOD system at some point in time. the more polys you use in the foreground, the more useful LOD will be.

hope this helps

Thanks for the tips jason, the fountain in them pics is actually from turbosquid and will be replaced soon with custom models made by Chris, the modeler.

Right, here are some screenshots of Earlscastle, the sort of second section of The Anarchy.

You may notice that it all looks very hectic, with everything modelled incorrectly, such as the fact that there lines on the gate-side towers where there shouldn't be, and the bottom of the walls which don't look straight at all.
don't take this against my skills! It's actually my graphics card being a bit old, and I rendered the lights incorrectly, so it all looks a bit weird! Late ones should be better!

Next one, it was meant to be a bit brighter, but it didnt work out too well, I'm stil learning how to properly lightmap in 3DWS!

Now the follwing are screenshot of one of the buildings that are going to be in the game. Its based on a drawing of a stables commonly found in 12th century castles. This is what you could call a WIP stable, because I realised I left a few features out, such as hay etc

I have the concept art of the Player. Well, two of them actually. Maybe a little Fable on one of them but what the ****, it's not a copy, just inspiration.

And the Villagers is going along well, i got three of them left. I can try to draw a medieval building. I can download a picture of an english one and modify it to make it look more 'Fantasy'.

Otherwise, the screens look cool! Except the big gaps on the wall. (north-eastern part)

nakidno: thats great, if you could send those to my hotmail, then that would be much appreciated! I will put those on the website asap.

Green7: funnily enough, I wasnt too sure myslef whether to have either a daub ceiling, a wooden ceiling, or a hollow ceilig, but I think that because hollowing is too much at the mo, i think it'll be wood. Cheers!
