It looks like a rip off of Crysis. Sorry to say it, but it's not going to work. FPSC was made for indoor environments, not huge outdoor landscapes. It'll just end up lagging like a female dog.

Also...even if you're not deliberately naming the game "Crisis" after the game "Crysis", it looks very similar in intentions, and will automatically make people compare your game to Crysis. FPSC cannot be compared to such an extensive, powerful engine.

Whats the game about?
Why did you make 2 threads?
Whats with the first 2 screenies?

Does it have a story?

Try to create your own stuff...
Add 1 big light to represent the sun.
Doesn look to good right now....maybe with some hard work it will.

It isnt impossible to create outdoor scenes....

But you would just have to create your own media..
So it all would be compatable for FPSC..

hey hey hey, if you want to use that hud piece you could have at least asked me first. Anyway, I'm fine with it, but since it was made on paid commission for Styloo, you're gonna have to make sure he gives the heads up first. Else, I'm afraid you can't use it.

Who cares if it's a rip off? How many people are developing SERIOUS games here? FPSC is a fun tool and that's what it ought to be used for. I didn't hear any screaming when I was working on my Doom Fan Game, yet he makes something that remotely resembles crysis and all you people can do is put him down?

I'm starting to see why Dave left...

Its okey....

Anyway you are right of course!
Some of us didnt commented on his screenies...

So here it goes...

Well it isnt possible to create a game like Crysis in FPSC...
But!
That doesnt mean it would look like.......
What you should do...is look for some free landscapes...
Or create your own....Play Crysis for inspiration on level design.
If you own X10...or you already own a computer that can play X10...
than use FPSC X10...since it has actual water.
Buy MP9 & 10...best weapon packs there is...and would be great for a game like this!

And finally think for your levels....
it has to be....great in level design!
Use some sound effects for animals...etc...
Use Rolfy's free media...he made a great skybox...and great trees etc..

Also good luck with this!

Yeah I see what you mean.

Im sorry Fps Bug Reporter for my post earlier. Im going to be serious now.

So on how it looks 7/10 and heres why:

Well i do like the outdoor theme and it looks good, but you need to put some more stuff in and make it less bland.
Personally this is looking like a game that I would like to play. I just think it needs a little work first. Well good luck

Dave? was this before my time?

Anyways, you really shouldn't feel discouraged. Everyone needs support, I've lost all my motivation to live because of people to discouraging me, so I encourage you so you don't end up like me.

sorry darimc, I didn't see where you were coming from.
Of course he needs to get the verifications for that hud, but should be encouraged.
if its any help with you design, it looks good, but why do you have pictures of the skybox?. Also, for jungle level design I would recommend a different skybox. And the water effects could use some work.

I'd rather it not be taken as an insult but more an observation of character. People really need to realize that everyone out there has their own emotions, goals, and priorites. If they are making a game and want to show it off putting them down because it "looks like Crysis" will discourge them from having fun with this product. I know a few people have done well with FPSC - but lets face it, even X10 isn't a truly commercial level engine. The majority of us are here to have fun. Showing off their creation and getting constructive feedback is a big part of this.

To sum it up I was merely stating that I'm beggining to understand the reasoning (or at least part of the reason) behind Dave's [DarkFact's] departure - alot of the feedback I tend to see here, mainly towards new members, is very negative with little constructive value. What if he wants to make his game like Crysis? So what if it's on an island? If he puts aliens in is he copying Half-Life?

I'm not trying to insult anyone. I'm merely stating what I see and hoping people will realize that we're not lawyers who need to throw every accusation they can at each other.

I hope I didn't steal one of Keith's speach-to-be's

Anyways, on topic - The beach is looking pretty good! A few more rocks at varying height (move them deeper into the sand) further up the beach might help. The water should probably extend a little further too, with some sort of invisible barrier to keep you from going too far. The skybox seems to be lacking in detail a bit, more variation in the shades of blue and maybe add some more depth to the clouds.

Sorry airslide...but what Dave did was wrong...
i am not saying that you are doing anything wrong...
But that was completely immoral of him!

Also, i dont want to discourage anyone...and what i did wasnt necessary!
So my apologies fpsc bug reporter!

I gave you tips in a post above...and hope that helped you!

I talked to him about it, and when he explained to me his reasoning, it made sense. At first I thought it was wrong, but I get where he's coming from now.

By the way, I agree with Airslide 100%.

He was a somewhat better designer on these forums...

But that doesnt make it a shame that he is banned...
What he said was wrong!

Doesnt matter if he had a excuse or something...
it was just plain wrong...and he should have never said anything like that!

If that was referring to me, I was just pointing out that FPSC doesn't handle large outdoor areas well, and that the name will make people compare it to something on a much greater scale. Those seem like reasonable tips to me.

However, to "fpsc bug repoter", sorry if my comments appear harsh. Unfortunately, my online ways mimic how I am in real life...a very blunt and to-the-point person. Please don't take anything I say offensively, I don't say things to put you down, but I can see how it might come across that way. Apologies.

To everyone else...wow...you went a little astray. I've added Cheese Cake to MSN to ask about DarkFact because now I'm intrigued, but lets not get carried away with off-topic conversation. I don't know where "fpsc bug reporter" is (well, if that's his occupation he must be a busy man ), but I don't think he'd be best pleased if all we did is talk about someone else in his thread.

Best,
Paul

Guys, why are we all talking about this still?

The topic creator hasn't replied at all, he's probably been scared off by some mild criticism.

Let the thread rest in peace, please. If he wants to come back with more work done, I'm sure he can dig it up / make a new thread.

Thank you.
