So,

My wife and I decided to turn our smallest bedroom into a gameroom for the kids. We were trying to come up with some ideas of what to do in there with painting and possible themes. There are two wood borders that run around the room (about 6 inches apart from each other) at about waist level. That made color choices difficult. What color do you paint below the strips? What color do you paint above the strips? What color do you paint between the strips? And what color do you paint the strips?

Then I had an awesome idea (at least I think so ). My wife even went along with it (probably because I was motivated to at least do "something" in there).

So, here is the first pic. I have the walls all painted. Any ideas of what the theme is yet?

I'm guessing a bunch of fishes swimmingses in the seas, and then above the stripe it will be .... medieval torture devices.

I hope there will be a foosball table in there!

Why don't you get manly and rip the damn strips off the wall with a crowbar, then you don't have this strip problem .

Get some new doors and a carpet, also take those ledges off the walls, they seem pretty useless. Or better yet, knock the closet wall down and make the room bigger.

Ah...Is it that one game...Where you have rows of blocks across the top and you have to break it apart by bouncing a ball with a paddle at the bottom? I've forgotten the name, there have been so many remakes...something like Block Attack maybe?

Modelled and rendered in Blender. Free software ftw.

Put the space invader aliens along a green strip in rotated directions.

Then PacMan and his ghosts along another thicker strip. Should be easy to paint. Since it is pixel-ish

I like the fact you want to keep things retro, let your kids know their roots!

Well... someone "suggested" Pacman, but no one really guessed it!

(edit: Oops! I see tha_Rami actually guessed Pacman! Sorry!)

I guess the maze is more from Ms. Pacman, but oh well. Here is some more pics of some progress. I have all of the pieces done now. I cut them from wood, sanded, then painted them.

I have one wall done (complete with dots). I'll post a pic of it soon. I still have to lay out the other walls with the arrangement of pieces.

I made:
dots (lots of them)
Power pellets (4)
Pacman
Ms. Pacman
Ghosts (4)
Cherry
Pretzel
Pear
Apple
Orange
Strawberry

After the Pacman theme is finished, I will probably do some Mario bros. thing on at least one of the walls. It should be pretty cool when it is all finished

I thought the theme was
ink rgb(rnd(255),rnd(255),rnd(255)),0
nah just ribbing you
I seriously think you should ditch that tiny shelf though, did someone just have a triangular piece of wood lying around?

I don't like the powerpuff girls, the white dots in their eyes are starting to freak me out

No it would be ink 0,rgb(rnd(255),rnd(255),rnd(255)) because it's technically the background, and the second parameter for 'ink' sets the background. Ha.

Impossible? Anything is impossible. 48'6F'77'20'64'61'72'65'20'79'6F'75'20'77'6F'72'6B'20'6F'75'74'20'6D'79'20'73'69'67'21

Yeah but how do you use the background colour?
The only way I know is CLS and that would just paint the wall one colour.
I am ending this conversation before I turn into an uber-geek

lol. I didn't really get the "ink" joke before, but it was funny. The colors DO look pretty random if you didn't know what I was doing.

Here is a quick pic of one of the walls.

Ron, I was the first one to suggest using PacMan, just search from the top of this page for proof.

Glad you liked my idea.

Drew,
I did say:

I've been working on this since this past Wednesday! The theme was already in action

Hah, Ron, after you hanging around at SW3D you oughta know I can read minds and predict the future.

I said Pac-Man cause I thought it looked cool with the strip. Seems that's exactly your thought too.

Have a gameboy: .

What a fantastic theme, love the Pacman Maze border!

Having 2 girls, I was forced to go down the fairy princess route in their bedroom. I just just try and think "Medieval Total War" when I look at it.

My lad's room is one of everything...it starts at the bottom with sea, followed by islands with dinosaurs and volcanoes, the sky has a flying Pteradactyl. Finally there is a layer of cloud with space above and across the ceiling with planets.

You can't beat using your kids rooms to get creative in a big way

If you're interested in some goofy furniture, check this site out:

Friend of mine emailed the builders to get a price quote for a room they were doing. I can't remember the exact prices, but I remember them being pretty reasonable. My favorite is "bad table".

Batvink,
Cool stuff! I must say, I think would be difficult for me to get into themes and such if I had girls. I'd probably end up doing some disney type thing.

Phaelax,
That is some AWESOME furniture. I also LOVE the "bad table". I had to show my wife that site! Thanks for the link.

I am now COMPLETELY done with the pacman portion of the room. I'll post some more pics of it later. It turned out pretty cool (at least I think so ). Next will be the Mario stuff on one of the walls. I might take some time off before I start on that though. I worked on the pacman stuff like crazy for a few days to get it done before Christmas. I'm a little burned out on painting at the moment!
