For my game, Failure to Cooperate, I'm planning on having a few levels have mounted MGs in them.

The thing is, I want a script so that when you walk up to a gun entity, instead of picking it up, there's a message that says, "Press Enter to use MG" (if someone can do that, could you make it have the stock font for opening, say, a WW2 door?) and you can press Enter again to dismount from the MG, and the player could do this as many times as he/she would want.

If someone could make a script like that, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
~AI

I tried to make a script like this ages ago.....

Those are the theories we came up with, the character one is best as the modded weapon one required the use of PLRDROP, which is a dead command.

Well, I'd want the turret HUD to be similar to FarCry's; as in the turret is in the center of the screen, and a bit "pushing" toward someplace (it's a bit facing away from the player); the turret locks the player in the firing position until the player stops using it; when the player uses the turret, the current weapon he/she's holding is holstered.

Maybe use a turret as a weapon; you pick it up, and you are unable to fire it until you press, say, the 'B' button when you are facing a windowsill, sandbag, table, etc.

The whole thing is extremely successful, as if you do it right, and use PLRDISTWITHIN=X, and SCANKEYCODEPRESSED=X, it picks up fine and keeps you in one place, but you can still switch to other weapons and you can't drop it back down once you've got it,(so your stuck.)

Okay, then...

May a mod lock this? I'm not sure if the turret could be a usable idea.

I just got a crazy Idea
What if when the player steps into a zone and press enter he/she will recive a MG with no ammo, the player is locked to the zone (isnt there a lock player on platform somewere?) untill the player press enter again. Whe the player pressing the shootkey ammo is respawning with one bullet per 0.5 second and lod directly into the gun an shoots (thats was happens if you run out of ammo and stands on a ammo/weapon spawn, it loads directly and starts to shoot.
When the player stops pressing the shootkey no more ammo is spawning and the MG wont have any ammo when leaving the shootzone.

Possible?

Check Fluffy's thread on remote control. Seth Black refined the script enough to where you should be able to control a turret weapon, at least side to side.

@BIG VG:

I suppose that'd one way to look at it...

One problem with a default engine though, is that you can't determine if the player is out of ammunition or not. Nor can you detect if the player is currently shooting.

I suppose you could try and give the minigun "unlimited" ammo by simply giving it a horrendously large amount. Or jut a large amount that would keep the player from camping the minigun.
