Tonight at Midnight I was in Central Time zone so I was midnight CST, so I'm assuming midnight for what ever time zone you are in.

The moon was directly above and full, but there was something else. A giant shadow that covered about a third of the sky. It looked almost like a hole in the atmosphere.

Anyone else seen this? and does any one know what it was?

My assumption so far is the earth, moon, and sun perfectly aligned to cause a shadow, but I may be wrong.

We had clear skies and a full moon. But space was too dark to see any hole

Sweet, I've seen one of them before. But i was in France a couple of years ago. Did you take any pictures of the halo you saw?

I couldn't think of a signature, so I put this.

Looks like it was a localised phenomena, as it was atmospheric. That would have been fantastic to see

Nice. I like it here because we get a lot of red and orange moons. Apparently is to do with all the dust from Egypt or somesuch, which spoils it a little. Still looks really cool though.

Oh and I'll expand on lyrics and quotes and the like:-
Quote: "I'm looking through a hole in the sky
I'm seeing nowhere through the eyes of a lie
I'm getting closer to the end of the line
I'm living easy where the sun doesn't shine

I'm living in a room without any view
I'm living free because the rent's never due
The synonyms of all the things that I've said
Are just the riddles that are built in my head

Hole in the sky, take me to heaven
Window in time, through it I fly

I've seen the stars disappear in the sun
The shooting's easy if you've got the right gun
And even though I'm sitting waiting for Mars
I don't believe there's any future in cause

Hole in the sky, take me to heaven
Window in time, through it I fly
Yeah

I've watched the dogs of war enjoying their feast
I've seen the western world go down in the east
The food of love became the greed of our time
But now I'm living on the profits of pride"

One of the best albums ever IMO. But which band was it? Without Googling...

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Hah, I remember when I was in grade 5 or 6, we were all in the school yard at recess and there was insanely high wings blowing, and one of those halo's around the sun. We all started flipping out thinking the atmosphere was getting sucked out into space, even some of the teachers began to get worried.

I saw the halo to here in EST. There were also some scary clouds covering the moon. And they were moving really fast. It was pretty spooky. This was at 9:30, not midnight.

I didn't notice any games in the sky last night, but I noticed it was a full moon. Go me.

You do realize that the link you posted is the exact opposite of what you described in your first post...a big ring of light versus a big shadow

I saw something like that around the sun a few years ago. And the sun seemed bigger than normal. Maybe it was just because I was in the Arizona desert.

Yeah i know, lol i'm sorry for the crappy description. But everyone else to saw it agreed that it looked really dark in the inside of the ring. We are not sure why, maybe since the ring was so bright the sky looked much darker in comparison? or the way the light was dispersed?

They are realistic for anything not first person where a camera may be what the player is seeing through. I think it's acceptable if the character is wearing a visor in an FPS though. Otherwise it's unrealistic.

They are very pretty though

Don't miss Mars, it is the brightest 'star' that you can see above these days.
The Moon pass almost over it these days too. Big and reddish.
