Ok, noob question... whats better, a matrix or a memblock mesh... whats the difference?

Let me rephrase I suppose.

Whats the difference between making a matrix using the built in commands, and using a memblock matrix? What's the advantage? Is all a memblock matrix is a DBP matrix coverted to a object? Or is it a matrix in which it's points have been figured out using a matrix?
