How can I install an OS when the PC turns itself off before displaying anything?
Getting new RAM tomorrow..if that doesn't fix the problem, me = pwned..

Ok, it isn't the RAM causing it to shut off... I got it to display stuff on my monitor by reseating the GPU's. The CPU gets for 113 degrees in a few seconds then shuts the system off, it all makes sense now..

do you have a heatsink and fan for the cpu?
did you apply thermal grease between the cpu and the heatsink?
(depends on the cpu, but most require this step or = death)

Yeah dude, you need thermal PASTE (<=I like that word) or else the heatsink pretty much will just trap the heat between little tiny air pockets between the CPU and the heatsink.

I didn't have any thermal paste when I put this machine together, so I used grape jelly. That was 2 years ago, and it rarely rises above 98F. (P4 2.4ghz)

I wouldn't recommend trying that though, just a funny story.

It was actually 113 degrees Celsius. I got an 850 Watt power supply with the proper 8-pin connector, which can run SLi properly, but I'm still waiting for the thermal paste. Should arrive tomorrow.
(I haven't posted here for a few days because my internet was down. Stupid storms.. Happy-almost-2008!!)

Yup.. Thats why I was thinking something might be wrong with the heat sensor.. How can it get that hot that fast?

if the cpu is cooked, nothing can save it.
the trick is to have the thermal grease and heatsink in place BEFORE you ever turn it on. Lets hope the cpu auto shut down measures worked and that the cpu will still function when you try it next.

I had thermal paste on it before, it was just the old leftover dell stuff.

I got the new thermal paste on, ad it worked! Staying around 40 degrees celsius, but.. When I try to boot windows I get a BSOD for a fraction of a second, then it takes me back to the "DEL to enter setup/F1 to continue" screen.. I fixed that, but now it doesn't even try to boot windows. IT will say it's loading the NVIDIA Boot Manager or something, then fain and say it needs the windows disk.. Right now the windows disk is in and I'll try doing a repair install or a fresh install. Anyone have any input?

Reusing thermal paste? I haven't heard of doing that.

I think a fresh install would work.
