Merry Christmas to everyone!

Mr. Bear (and Nutt) is about a teddy bear, named, you guessed it, Mr. Bear! And the famous, world-saving acorn Nutt is back for round two, except this time, he's experiencing the drama from Shell's point of view. As in, he's playing second trombone to Mr. Bear.

Some notable features:

Mr. Bear is saved by a deranged owl

20 mini-games, and more to come

Polish (I admit, unfinished. I was in the process of polishing when I realized it was Christmas and I should have a new demo)

Uh... New stuff. I forgot some. So, download, play, and enjoy!

Mr. Bear being rescued by Mr. Owl.

"Trombone Target", one of the mini-games.

I'm singing in the rain! Except for some reason the rain doesn't show in this pic! You can, however, tell that Mr. Bear is soaked.

Yep. And the download is attached!

Well, glad everyone's so excited. Of course, I'd like to hear the reviews.

Actually, I'm glad you offered, because the main menu music was kind of a once-in-a-year-or-two opportunity. I'd like some like the one on the main menu, except background-y. Thanks! (If you want, you can pull bits out from the main menu music; mrbeartheme.mp3)

Getting Caps check to run astray is quite easy if you know a way to write a space with 6 characters. You will have your ass kicked by Jeku for that, though.

By the way, very impressive stuff. Far more polished and good stuff. I loved the computer vs bear in level 2 thing .

OK, no problem. I'll see what I can do.

EDIT: Geh, my music is unworthy. But here's my first attempt:

Thanks for the comments! INH, I played your music, and it was pretty good, except for a few things:

* needs to be a bit longer. Don't worry about file size, 'cuz I'm gonna convert it to .mp3 anyway

* should be less "dark". It seems like he's on some sort of circut board

* I liked the "bum-bum" things. Uh, I can't really think of a better description.

Okey Dokey. I've improved the music. I've kept the beats, but it's got a happier, catchier tune, and is a little longer.

There's a reason why Rich implemented a "no-CAPS" feature to the forum. I'd advise you not try to bypass it.

Sorry Jeku. We just get so happy from seeing a new Mr. Bear (and Nutt) update that we do stupid things. I fixed mine, in any case.

lol! I get it!

@INH

I like the intro, but it kind of goes into a loop after that. Maybe you should shorten it back down, lol.

Edit! I said lol twice in one post! Three times!!! I'm spiraling out of control!

This thread has kind of departed from the "update" path, so...

Life-Changing update!

You know the really big Mr. Bear level? The one with the snow gear, etc? Well, it's gone. I realized that Mr. Bear (and Nutt) made more sense with a continuing stream of levels than it did with one tutorial level and one level that Mr. Bear kept coming back to, so I changed it. Plus, the coins and stuff were making a ton of saving/loading problems.

Another reason: The level was much too big to apply the polish that I've been adding to the tutorial level.

So now, level 2 is The Swamp. Screen:

(it started raining, so Mr. Bear is soaked. I'm quite proud of the effect)

[/update]

I'll make you some game over music as an apology, Kay? Edit: Attatched.

And now, some shameless critiscism:
Unless it's just my crappy old computer, the second Mr Bear level is REEEEAAAAALLLLY slow, which is odd 'cuz you don't appear to have any extreme special effects. Before you work on anything else I would work on raising the FPS.

how do you get over to the area to the left?

And more importantly, where are the ten coins?

Doing pretty good though, I just wish I knew what I was supposed to be doing.

Bump... and, there won't be many updates for a while. My computer is being a complete daft marmot, and is not correctly plugging in. I think it's going to die permanently soon, so my main priority is rescuing all the data.

Point is that you're not a mod, and difference is that there's actual interest and content in this topic. Come on, Drew, lay back. Don't ruin peoples' forum experiences just because you feel yours has been ruined by others.

Too bad about that, KYP. I do hope to see this one finished!

Indeed. Despite considerable problems due to my computer's inability to successfully plug in to the wall, I have made lotsa progress. For one, I've finished the Mr. Swamp level, complete with several objects (toilet, computer, etc) around near the end for whacking with a plunger (they even spin through the air with "realistic" physics). I'm working on the next Nutt level, but I don't know what to do with it (any ideas?). I have the third Mr. Bear level planned out: it's going to be a modern art museum.

Also, I've ran through the code and deleted most of the fragments that had to do with the unnecessary saving/loading. Because of all the coins and crap, there were like 10 .dat files with about 2 bytes of information in each one. All gone. Hooray!

Screens soon.

Edit: Hmm, this looks kind of random to anyone who hasn't checked here in a while. For an explanation, see the previous post.

And voila, a screen.

I'm also going to insert some more mini-games. (I've been thinking about one where Mr. Bear gets a job at a fancy restaurant and adds some "extra ingredients" for someone he dislikes. Anyone have a good name for someone Mr. Bear could dislike?)
