Geek Culture / Xbox Live (360) setting up problem

ok so i've just got an Xbox 360 (ftw) and i thought "hmm xbox live, i'll set this up". so i plugged the ethernet cable from my router into the back of the xbox, went to xbox live on the interface and clicked "join xbox live" only it wont connect, and when i try to "test connection" it finds the network thingy but it tries to test for IP and fails!

where am i going wrong?

What ISP and what router are you using?
