If I check the cables going from my sound card to the amplifier and then onto the speakers, there are three stereo cables, making 5.1, right? My speaker set is a Creative Inspire 6100 and my sound card is a Trust SC-5100. They're both supposedly compatible. But no matter what setting I put games in (whether it's quad, 5.1 or 7.1), I get stereo coming from the satellites and a silent centre speaker. Should I connect the centre speaker to another jack on the amp, it plays fine. If I go into the mixer, I can individually change the volumes of the satellites. But still, games do not seem to be able to use the surround. Flatout 2 plays everything in stereo through the front speakers, Elite Force 2 does stereo with all four no matter what setting I choose and the centre speaker continues to do little. Is there something I'm missing? Have I been duped?
At least the subwoofer is nice.

Ensure your system settings are set to 5.1 also.

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Advanced Speaker Settings

Or, if your sound card comes with its own setup software, ensure it's set to 5.1 as well. I know Creative sound cards have their own volume control and diagnostic software, so this needs to be configured to the right settings also.

It's all turned on. But Windows itself can't seem to make up its mind whether I've got 5.1 or 2.0.

Actually, I just found a game that works with the surround. Incidentally, it's one of my all-time favorites. Mercedes-Benz World Racing surprised me when a mid-engined Ferrari I was driving was playing the engine note from behind my head. Then I crashed, and it came from the front right accompanied by a subwoofer "kick". Nice.
