Hey,

The 256MB 8600GTS is around $199 (i've seen the generic brand for $169, and the 512MB 8600GT is only $160, which would lead one to believe the 256MB GTS is the better card of the two, despite the dramatic memory differences.

So, which card is the better of the two? The 256MB 8600GTS, or the 512MB 8600GT?

Thanks.

Amazon 8600 GT

This one has DX10 Support and would probally last longer though it is a 256MB

The GT can run COD4 maxed out

Crysis can be played with these settings

8600 GT User Testimony

Amazon 8600 GTS

This one is a DX9 card but a good one, 512MB will allow more polies and will probally every game you own exept for crysis in max settings.

Thanks for all that info, it seems like the GT is good enough to play COD4 and Crysis maxed out, so it should be good enough for DBP X10 and all other games to come into the market into the future.

What, the benchmark with Crysis? That's all right, even running COD4 on full settings is good enough for me.

As long as I know that the 512MB 8600GT is better than the 256MB 8600GTS, then i'm happy.

No, it isn't. The 8600gts is the superior card here even with the lower memory.

If you can afford it though, get an 8800gt.

Really? Yeah, I would get an 8800GT, but I just don't have the money at the moment.

Can anyone else confirm that the GTS is > than the GT, despite the lower memory?

http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2007/04/17/the-inq-puts-8600gtgts-cards-through-their-paces

The 8600gts cards all beat the 8600gt card hands down. The GT is a lower clocked card. Memory size is not as important as bandwidth. It'd be like buying 2gigs of RAM to speed up your computer, but only ever using half of it, and having a slow processor to boot Much better to buy the higher end processor than the large amount of RAM.

Dared mistook the 8800gt for the 8600gt. An 8800GT of course beats an 8600gt/s, and an 8600gts beats an 8600gt. RAM on those cards are all but nearly irrelevant. You only shop for RAM after you choose the series of card you're going to buy.

The 512mb models on Newegg are about 200 bucks, but as stated before, at that price you're better off getting an 8800gt
