Ok well first I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, but the real point I came here is to get some help with my RAM.

For Christmas I got 2 1gb sticks of RAM, when I put them in its just a black screen. I tried every combination with my old RAM and my new. There was no post or anything. Everything turns on fine but the monitor just does not seem to recognize the computer.

My Motherboard is an ASUS K8N-E, the new RAM is PNY - Optima 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 DIMM Memory

Anyone know the answer, from what im thinking right now, the RAM is either no good or its just not compatible with my mobo.

EDIT:

I have tried to change the voltage in the bios up to as high as it lets me, but still no luck, changed it to auto and still no luck.

EDIT: Didn't see that other post about the blank screen sorry.

I can't find your motherboard, are you sure you gave us the right model number? If you're motherboard manual says it can take DDR2 5300 RAM, then it should be compatible, try using only your new ram on the motherboard and see if it boots. If not, try one stick at a time. It could be that your old ram and new ram don't play together.

You can possibly get them both to work together by playing with the bios settings, but it's usually not a good idea to mix different types of ram together as it can lead to an unstable system.

After a little research, I found out that it doesn't support DDR2 Memory. Just the following: DDR400/333/266

No? I dont think so, I just aligned the slots with the slots and it fit. Its facing the same way as my old ram.

Er, maybe I'm thinking of ddr2 vs ddr3. Cuz asus says this:

http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=772&l1=3&l2=14&l3=66&l4=0

Quote: "3 x DIMM, max. 3GB, DDR400/ 333/ 266, ECC, non-ECC, un-buffered memo"

So go get yourself some ddr400 and she should be good to go

Alright instead of buying a new RAM, im thinking about just buying a new Motherboard and a processor, I found one but its not the same socket, does it matter. What are the socket numbers for, mines a 754 the one I found is a 775, here it is, its pretty neat, PCI-E,PCI, and AGP, DDR2 and DDR 400 all in one! but I dont know if I can get it because I dont know what the sockets mean?

Edit: oh by the way here it is

The CPU won't fit if it's not the same socket.

Well I figured a few things out, I wont have to buy new Hard Drives or Disk drives, so that takes off a lot of money, plus I found a cheaper motherboard that supports AGP and DDR2, so that takes off some more money, but the only question I have is will I have to buy a new case. Or do all the motherboards look the same. I hope I will not have to buy a new case.

Here is my prices redone:

Motherboard-$49.95 http://www.outletpc.com/c3593.html
CPU-$39.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819104317
500 watt power supply- 29.97 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2240328&CatId=1079

Total: $119.91

Will the CPU and Motherboard support Vista though, thats what I didnt check, mobo supports vista but not with an ATI GFX card

Yeah but I dont want to buy more memory, I already have 2 1gb sticks of DDR2 that I got for christmas, for the price of 2gb of DDR400 MHz I could buy a new mobo, cpu and power supply. Look at the price at my above post here is the price of the cheapest 2gb DDR400 MHz--$127.98

Pretty much all modern motherboards have either a ATX or a MicroATX form-factor (size). MicroATX boards are 9.6" x 9.6", and ATX boards are n x 9.6". See what kind you have, basically all cases can fit ATX boards, a rare few only fit MicroATX. Hope that helps

That's not quite the case. Small cases generally fit microatx boards only. If you've got a fairly large pc, it'll probably fit, unless it's a dell case or something. Let us know what type of case you have and we'll be more help.

Most all regular size cases fit atx and microatx boards.

that's a regular atx mobo, it'll probably fit in the case, no guarantees though without knowing what case it is and not seeing where the screw holes are located

The board is probably fine. It's just that you can't use an Intel processor with an AMD motherboard, so you need to make sure all your components are compatible with one another before buying anything.
