Hi again GP! Long time no see.

I had a look at your website. It looks really good. I took the liberty of editing your story a little. It's exactly the same, just in better english and a little more epic. Feel free to use this if you wish.

The history of the great war

In the year 2100 there was a brutal war that raged throughout the world. Entire cities were destroyed. No one was left standing.

There was a soldier named Myrical who believed in a free world: a world at peace. However, the great war that blighted the planet prevented her dream from becoming a reality. And so she set out to build a silent army: an army that worked in the shadows. She created a specialist unit, trained as masters of stealth, whose sole purpose would be to destroy key enemy resources across the globe.

Myrical was determined to bring peace to the world, but she was doubted by many. She was another rebel, just waiting to be arrested and executed by the Council of Five.

Myrical saw herself as Noah; the building of her army like the building of his arc. She made the decision to name her project the “Arc Army” to emphasize her beliefs. Few thought it possible. She was only one woman. It would take time, patience and perseverance.

By 2110 Myrical had miraculously gathered a small unit of soldiers. By 2111 however, the Arc was the most feared fighting force on the planet. They were well trained, fearless and cunning, ready to give their lives for their cause: To defeat their enemy, the Council of Five.

The council consisted of five emperors, each controlling one of the five imperial armies. They had been an unstoppable fighting force. That was before Arc had been created. The council suffered many losses and for a time it seemed that they would finally be overthrown, until they made a fatal discovery: Arc’s stronghold. The council were ruthless and sent every soldier they could muster to level it to the ground. As the vast armies marched towards her base, Myrical allowed her forces to flee. She alone stood at the gates of the stronghold. She alone was brave enough to stand against the Council of Five. Myrical fought with all the strength she had.

That day...

Myrical fought an empire…

It is now the year 2130. Arc continues to march against the Empire. The future looks hopeless and progress is slow. However, two of the five have been slain. Although this was a great achievement. It has forced the remaining three emperors into a high state of alert.
You are a soldier in Arc. You know what the stakes are. You know what you are fighting for. Your mission is simple... Defeat the empire... win the war...

If you think this is too bare then just tell me and I'll add more to it.

The flag is American becuase it was the only decent picture of a torn flag I could find. It's been heavily edited to show movement and to make it look utterly ruined. It's not really supposed to be American. Anyway, anything you don't like, tell me and I'll change it.

Oh, ia this game set on Earth in the future? Or on another planet or what?

Wow thanks alot! yes the game is set in the future on Earth. Just WOW, when you said you would make a post I didnt even amagin somthing like this.Ill put it on my website now and Im guna creadit you on there to. oh ya and i got the email. Im not shere if im guna make the full version free yet I mit make it like a doller or 2. but I may make it free... It should be out by atlest feb 15.

Im getting bake to the last couple lvs of the game so I can finish it.

for every one that download's the demo plz post what you think.
the demo have lv's 1 and 2 in it. the only thing that the full game has that the demo does not, is that when the game is loading and through out the game you general talks to you. Have fun!

Myrical's arc review


Menu screen
Ok, firstly, when I opened up the game the menu screen was a little messed up. The buttons were all out of line, as was the HUD in the actual game. Music in the menu screens was good, although you won't be able to use it if it's copyrighted. Loading time was OK.

LEVEL 1
Gameplay
Firstly, I noticed I only had 50 HP. This was good as I realised I couldn't just run and gun the level however, bugs made this very annoying. Everytime I spawned, I lost almost half my health. When I walked down stairs, I lost half my health. This really annoyed me, especially in level one where you had to jump over the spikes: The enemy in the doorway killed me everytime because I had so little health. Mabye decrease his accuracy a bit? Ammo and enemy placement was good except for that enemy I just told you about. When I came up the lift, the left side of the room was extremely laggy. I don't know why, but I was getting about 1 fps I have a very good computer btw. The gun was not suitable for this game as right clicking gave me a useless aiming HUD. This meant that picking up objects became impossible because the HUD came up everytime I right clicked. I know you can just press 0 and put the gun away but this didn't help when enemies were shooting me. A secondary weapon would also be nice like a pistol.

Graphics
This demo DID NOT look like the screen shots. It looked bog standard FPSC with practically no lighting and bad quality textures etc. Perhaps this was because you didn't have full light mapping and high textures on? Go and read Creator Of Zombies lightmapping tutorial. It's really good. You had alot of static and dynamic entities mixed together and this made the areas look messy as some objects had shadows and some were very bright. The entity placement was OK but could have been better. The level was very grey and a little boring.

Atmosphere
There was a very quiet ambience in the background, however I couldn't hear it. The character is supposed to be fighting a war here, so I would suggest war ambience in the background. Guns and explosions in the distance etc. The lightmapping wasn't good so it didn't help create any feeling in the game. Also, where was this place? Where was the character? It was as if all back story was lost when the game began.

LEVEL 2
Gameplay
Much the same as level 1. The explosive barrels in the final room killed me all the time. The door into the room had to be open to be able to shoot them and this meant I was too close to them and got killed. If I went too far away, the doors closed and I couldn't shoot. The male enemy in the final room killed me instantly. Decrease his accuracy or something please. The loss of HP everytime I spawned meant I was just cannon fodder for him. This level was criminally short aswell and there wasn't much to do in it ;/

Graphics
The wall texture on all the entities was a big mistake I think. It really didn't work, I would suggest creating brand new textures. Entities where crammed in together which looked a bit unrealistic. There was a desk in the first room that must have been for a midget. Explosive barrels were everywhere. Why? :S Why would the enemies have explosives everywhere? Lightmaps did not flow. They were boring I'm sorry to say.

Atmosphere
Same as level one.

This was a bog standard FPSC game. You really need to work on your skills. The fact that full lightmaps and textures was not turned on didn't help matters. The demo was a bad showcase for this game.

YOU NEED:

Interesting lightmaps, using different tones of colour in every room as highlights.

Light sources!!!

Retextured enemies

Scripted events - The game was far too predictable and basic for what FPSC can do these days. I'll send you a list of simple story events.

More user friendly weapons. (The HUD)

More thought out entity placement and more interesting entities on the walls etc.

Fix the bugs and mabye give us more health

Level design: Make it more realistic and longer! Don't mix static and dynamic entities!

SOUND! We are fighting a war here son! Let's get some war ambience and stuff! Make it feel like a warzone.

Phew! That took a while. Sorry if this seems harsh in any way. It's all meant to be constructive crit, so you can make the best possible game.

thank you for that buttmonkey . I plane to make full light mapping and high texture in the full game. maby I should make the demo that way also? Ill do that now. as for the guy in the cornere when you needed to jump the spiks he was kind of a kill huh well maby I should make his am less... the war zone sounds and the setting- In the full game there will be a mishion breffing when the lv is loading and as you go throw the lv. the reson there isnt war sounds i becuse as you read in the story line She created a specialist unit, trained as masters of stealth, whose sole purpose would be to destroy key enemy resources across the globe. You ant in a batle zone you in a under ground screet base, hens no battle sounds. I liked the creepy sound though it kind of freeks you out when your stuck and trying to find out what to do. The reson for the lvs being so short is so that the loding time would be great. I will try and make the lvs longer tho. what if insted of making the guys have less accurasy i just gave you 100hp? I like the lvs to be hard. the exploding thing was tricky but what i did was shoot and run, the door would close and i wouldnt get tuched! but I think it would be more fun to make it so the door was a use and not an addo. well as much as you posted on bad things would you think it would be fun if I fixed what I side?

Basically, i think you should work on your level design and get better lightmaps, change the gun and turn up the ambience. Mabye not use the sci fi wall texture on entities as it didn't look great Oh, btw, the enemies disapeared after they died. You should use the leavecorpse script.

I know but the Arc army is still going, thats waht the game is about you are a arc solider.

Ok Ill do the lighting thing change the guns and make the lvs longer. thank you for your advice however pane full it was for me to read lol.

I have been playing my lvs over to fing out the best way to make them longer. I have found that With full lighting the dark setting of the lv is what I wonted in the 1st place. I wonted Myricals arc to have a little bit of a horror fell to it and the dark setting and the bake round sound I had set really brings that out.
I made it so that guy thats there when you jump over the spicks isnt there. insted I have to slits in the wall, when you jump to the 1st set of bars the room lights up and you here gun fire. this may sace you and make you drop unless you can controll you nerves. does that sound better, Im almost done making lv 1 alot longer

redone Demo progress

leave corps when dead- DONE

take scifi wall texture off entitys- Some people have side they liked that so I left the pillers, stachus, and some of the boxes. But I changesd the barrles and stuff back to normal

Change gun (give player a scondary gun)- I think Im going to keep the gun That you start with, But I may give you the scondary gun of the outamatic pistol that you are suppost to get in lv 3, in lv 2.

exploding barrles kill you every time- I changed it so you just have to shoot throguh the boxes, as shown In the screen

Jumping spicks, but getting gunned- changes it so that there is just to windows there. I also made it so that the bares you jump on are on there side, this way Its easyer to get across.

lighting- Ive added more light sorses and more lights. But Im keeping the ambince the way it is.

For some reson I cant load up lv 2 now??? Im trying everything hopfully I can fix it and not remake the hole lv...
