Hi all.

Anyhone know if The Sims 2 works on Windows Vista? Because someone I know, and who loves that game, is going to get, or at last planning to get, an laptop. And since The Sims 2 was out before vista, it might be good to know that before purchasing an machine. Anyone knows?

Take care,
Mr Z.

Good .

Anyway, the machine she was looking at have about 1 gb ram. I said vista would perform well on it (I do not have vista, but I have read a lot about it), just as she had at last that much. Will vista (home basic) perform well under 1 gb ram?

Should do, home basic isn't as resource intensive as the others. However,do you know what graphics card and processor the computer has, because even if it has 1gb of RAM if it has a rubbish processor it has no chance.

I did it for the lulz

It is not a super processor, but I do not consider it super bad either.

Processor:
Intel Celeron M540-processor, 1,83GHz

RAM:
1 Gb

Graphics card:
Do not say

EDIT:

Ok, after I googled a bit I found out was kind of graphics card the laptop has.

Graphics card:
GMA X3100

Do you think it will be able to run The Sims 2?

Ye, that processor is about as low end as they come for Celerons, but that's fine, most games won't need a high end or even midrange processor. What you do need is a fairly decent graphics card.

If you don't know what graphics card you have, go to start > (in vista use the search box, or in xp click "run) > type "dxdiag" without quotes > go to the "Display" tab.

I do not have it, I have just looked at it at the webbsite. She found it, and I, who know a bit more about computers then she, look at it. But since I do not know very much about vista, I asked here.

Anyway, the graphics card was an GMA X3100.

Ok, that is good. Then the game will propobly work. The game has an minimum requirement at 800 MHz (according to wikipedia), so it should work.

I didnĀ“t know. It did not stand at the webbsite. I googled the model, and found out it was an GMA X3100.

Read the first post in the thread again .

Yeah, Sims 2 will run fine on that system, I think the X3100 is either a 128 or 256 chipset, but integrated so its shared either way. But Sims 2 runs fine on my girlfriend's computer with far worse integrated video, so I'm sure your friend will be fine.

Well, games don't generally support laptop cards, so it'd be a toss up until you try it out. I doubt you'll have any problems running the sims on a laptop though

Now playing Crysis? That may be a different story

Ok, then I draw the conclusion that laptop should be able to run The Sims 2 without any problems.

Problems with Crysis? That game is ugly and old as hell, and ablut every computer can run it as long as they have at last 200 MHz and 16 mb ram!

Nah, just kidding.
