I was thinking of adding one more gigabyte of RAM and a new graphics card. Anyone else have plans to upgrade in 2008?

Not I, I have a good computer as it is.

Running 128 megs of ram, a pentium 2, and a 500 megahertz processor, and a crank powered power supply - 56 and a half volts, I own you all. All on dial-up, top that, foe.

I'd just pick up a PCI one from Wal-mart for $25. I think it was 5.1 maybe 7.1

I'm buying a new comp any day now. Spending about $1400 on a quad-core with the best Nvidia card, 20+" LCD, 4GB RAM, good sound card, etc. Can't wait

I would love to upgrade my PC, but it's too expensive. I don't have £180 to blow on something that'll be out of date in a nanosecond.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

I see your going for AMD, Intel's quad-core costs $1000 USD alone.

Also I got a 1GB of RAM (2x512) but I forgot that my 2 memory slots were taken by another set of 512's!

I've been saying I'll get a new comp for a while, maybe 2008 will be that year?

Also anyone says, 'Oh I'll just add another gig of ram' is born of Satan, only a gig? That's a lot by my standards.

If I can't get a new comp, I might upgrade parts - I think they do decent processors in my socket still and for a good price.

I might upgrade sometime this year. My video card now out-classes the rest of my system. This system is good but I built it in feb 2005 so it could use a sprucing up.

specs:

Mobo: Asus p5gd2 deluxe (mobo supports pci-e 1.0 only)
CPU: Intel P4 3.2ghz Socket LGA775 (original "dual core/hyper threading" not actual dual core like newer Duo's)
RAM: 2 x 512 mb ddr2 pc-3200 (1 GB)
HDD: 2 x 80 GB Western Digital SATA
PSU: Antec Smart Power 2.0 500w (36a) 3 x +12v rails
Original GPU: Asus Nvidia GF 6800 Ultra 256mb PCI-E 16x (1.0) dx9
Current GPU: XFX Nvidia GF 8800 GTS 320mb PCI-E 16x (1.0,2.0) dx10,9

The system is good for now. It runs all HL2 based games at full tilt, and I just installed COD4 and it runs smooth with very high settings in 1280x1024.

I guess I'll see where it stands in a couple of months. I think the psu is acting up so this may be factor that causes me to just build a whole new machine sooner rather than later, as this is the second psu already on this machine.

Oops, I forgot to tell you I was talking about the new one. I don't remember the name, but it wasn't Pentium or Core2.

I've had my current computer for almost two years now, and the graphics card for over a year I believe. I'll probably wait a year and then sell the whole thing and get a massive upgrade.

Specs:

-2.66 ghz Intel Pentium 4 Processor
-2x512mb RAM
-NVIDIA Geforce 7950GT 512mb
-80 gb + 60 gb HDD
-17'' LCD (which I'll probably just keep)

I was sort of forced to upgrade my PC... My mobo malfunctioned, so I had to purchase a new one, I also picked up an AMD dual core processor. Had to reformat my HD thanks to Windows copyright protection, but now I've got everything up and working again

A new video card, 512MB or better, and I need it pronto lol. And a new external HD, preferably with 1.5TB or more, would be extremely helpful. If it counts, I also need a new all-in-one printer/ scanner/ copier/ fax thingamajig. I'm hoping to have all of these things by June or July, although I don't know about the external HD, that's gonna be pretty dang expensive.

No, it's not. Actually the only thing besides the graphics that I upgraded since I got it is the memory, and come to think of it I did get a new HDD when I got Vista, but it's still the same old processor.

Oh yeah, I got the screen later on too.

im saving $1500 AUD for a PC with:
- Quad-Core Intel Q6600
- 2 GB g.skill DDR2 RAM
- Albatron GeForce 8800GTS with 640MB DDR3 memory

this does not include the screen (however i am striking a deal with my parents that if i give them my current PC (which i bought for $500) to replace out geriatric family PC then they would buy me a screen (22" widescreen LCD...

...coincidently $500)
