MAFIA Unloaded

Story:

In this game, the Italian MAFIA has decided you know too much to let you live. Their agents captured you in America and took you out of the country to Italy. They stuck you in a stronghold. Recently, there have been strange reports of weird technology being used by the MAFIA. While in the stronghold, you discover more. Of course, the MAFIA doesn't mind since they are going to kill you anyway. You learned this: the MAFIA has gotten ahold of some advanced A.I. and the are using it to construct robot henchmen. If this works, they will have an unlimited supply of hitmen. They also have some experimental weaponry. You're goal is to escape your prison, get out of the stronghold, and get to your home base. After you accomplish that, you will be tasked with hunting down every last robot, destroy the factory, and get some blueprints on the weapons and robots.

So far all I have is the demo. It is the first two levels of the full game. I want to have around 6-8 levels in the full game. Any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. Also, the demo levels are slightly earlier versions.

Your rooms need to be smaller and add more entities and ligths.

welcome to the forums! since your new ill give you my mini-guide to fpsc games.

1.turn down your ambience all the way and add lights manually, this gives more of a mood to your game

2.be realistic with your entity placement. think, would somebody make a huge room with only a chair in it? there are some cases where this is exceptable (ex. a medium room with an electric chair in the middle and a spotlight in the middle. ) but make sure your entities match the mood and setting. ( dont have an electric chair and a bazooka in a civilian lobby )

3.plan out your llevels, most people neeed to do it on paper, i always found that difficult so i just memorize how the level will look in my mind and just make it in the editor according to that image.

4.dont get in a flame war if someone criticises your game. trust me, you WANT people to criticise your game. that way you know what your doing wrong, you know how pros do it, and you know what the public wants. unless someone is just talking crap or swaering because they're an idiot who just wants to pick on newcomers, i wouldnt worry too much about it.

5.music. the one thing i cant stand is when someone makes a game with no music, it could take a game from a 9/10 to an 7/10. music sets the mood, and it makes your games a little less boring. try something ilke the default music be kinda quiet and creepy and then when an enemy is around the corner make the music more dramatic ( place a sound zone and put music in it ) iof you dont like the default music just make some of your own, record it, and put it in.

6 and most importantly. dont rush. trust me this stuff takes time. and you cant make a top-notch game in 5 days. give it time and put work into it. if you want this to be free, go ahead. if you want to make money, go ahead and do that too.

7.one last thing to remember. fps creator wasnt made for you to make a Halo4, Call Of Duty 5, or Half-Life 3. ill leave it at that, and let you think on yourself about this one.

well, hope that helped you, and remember, these things make are what i strongly recomend to making a good game. i've looked around and seen what others have done with fpsc and ive played really popular games (doom 3, cod4,assasin's cree) to see how they did so good. and if you knew something i said here, thats great! your learning already. best of luck and happy new year.

The demo is actually better than this, but I had been pressing the wrong button for screenshot, and this was the only one I got.
I'll get some more screens. But thanks forthe pointers. I have been working on this.

It's really bland. It needs more entities in the rooms.

Yea, what cheese hed said. And no offense dude, but you must have a sucky computer, because you've lowered the texture resolution and didn't place any lightmaps in.

@Chees hed - thanx for that guide thing, I'm new to FPSC and it helped a bit.

@Def Koon - good so far but I have to agree with everyone else, the rooms are too big and need more stuff in it. A way that I use is to design each room to have a purpose. Know what the room will be (eg. an armoury, a bunker, fuel storage) before you build it then put entities inside which match the rooms theme. Although a simple tip, it really helps me make each room appear different and interesting.

Good luck with you game though!
