when i installed it, i told it not to setup a web server. then i downloaded the SMF files into a folder on my server called forum. then i opened iis and created a virtual directory called forum and linked it to the folder, i clicked run scripts and browse and clicked ok. then i went on cmm/forum and it came up as a filelist. i clicked install.php and then it told me i must download it.

yes it will, apache has native PHP / mysql support

Download Xampp, its a package with Apache / PHP / Mysql / phpmyadmin, etc

Why don't you get a free host?

I have mysql and php running on IIS 6 just fine.

What exactly isn't working? I've used Xampp myself and never had any issues.

why not? you're really not giving any details about the problem.

Problems: "I can't start my car"

possible reasons: "dead battery, no keys to start with, car was stolen"

See how vague your problem appears to me? I'm assuming you're not missing the fingers to type on the keyboard, so is there any errors?

There is a better way of installing a web server - http://www.apachefriends.org. One simple install file installs apache, php v4 and v5, mysql and plenty of tools, phpmyadmin etc. Up and running within 5 minutes!
