Our school government wants to have some sort of Guitar Hero competition, fundraiser or night where students come and play guitar hero, and it is like a real concert. I was wondoring if anyone could help me find the best way to judge the winners, or how this hsould be done. I have never been to a GH competiton, so if anyone has any advice, it will be appreciated!

Well, split em up into the four difficulty modes, then judge them either by percentage of notes hit, number of notes hit out of the total, or score.

Osiris is right about splitting it up into the difficulty modes, but I think the only fair way to judge them is by score. Take the easy difficulty for example; both are relatively "easy" to get perfect on, or near perfect. It should come down to who has more skill with their notes, which goes into who uses the whammy bar more, who uses star power frequently, etc.

Then again, thats already handled by the game itself if you just play the regular battle on GH. You could just do a tournament style; 2 players face each other, whoever wins goes onto the next round to face other winners, until there is 1 left.

Yes, all the winners from all the difficulty's could easily be made to battle each other.

IS the score affected by how much notes are in a song? Because a song with less notes could have a disadvantage against one wiht more. Also, is there anyway anyone knows of to run 4 guitars at once?

How does the song matter? Both players are playing the exact same song against each other... have you ever played GH?

Yes i have. The song can matter very much. Not all 40 or 50 people will play the same song. It would be annoying after a while.

Force everyone to play through the fire and flames on expert. That'll settle it right quick.

Yes, you wouldnt want to have more than 2 people playing the same song, but the song chosen wont effect those 2 people. Just have each pair flip a coin, and whoever wins choses the song. That, or have a random draw where each pair picks a song out of a hat. The point is it doesnt matter how hard the song is, because both of them will be playing the same song.

Ok, but does a song wiht more notes make it easier to get more points, or is it proportiant (spg?) to each song?

I dont see how that is relevant... If a song has 1000 notes, both players are trying to hit those 1000 notes, and if a song has 5 notes, both players are trying to hit those 5 notes. Whoever does it better wins. Its not like you'd be comparing the winner's points from 1 pair to the winner's points from another.

To answer your question yes, a song with more notes means more chances to hit a note which means more chances to get points, thus its easier to get points if a song has more notes. But I still dont see how it matters at all.

The only way it matters is because of time. We dotn have enough time to hold a complete tournament, so we were going to have 2 people at a time play on 1 song. however, i think we have a way to judge it. We can judge it based on the highest score, longest note streak, and whoever the judges select. Thanks for the clarification on the notes though.

If two players are competing on the same song then just eliminate the loser, simple! Use pro face-off where both players plays all notes. This system is completely based on score which is the only thing that should be judged. The better use of star power and the longer the streaks the higher the score! Score can vary a lot even if percentage is the same.

To make it more fun to the audience, judging on score, difficulty and stage performance is better but then it's also best to play 1 guy at the time. Score must then be converted to a 1-10 point system relative to the maximum achievable score (refer to Score Hero's top scores). Also, song difficulty must be weighted in, perhaps by ranking each song from 1-10. I think there should be a few judges that judge the stage performance only. A lot of work to set up but quite fun for all attending.
