i dont think you would need shaders if you had a light source.

about the water effect, im not sure, but you could tell your matrix values to be random within a certain range. you know what i mean?

There's an example in the 'Jetski' demo in the myproj folder with DBC, that uses a matrix with waves.
Just edit the code out of that

I dont think shaders can be used on matrixes, only objects.
In fact I dont think shaders can be used (at the moment), though I would love someone to prove me wrong.

Though anything is possible in db . You could try appling a shader to an object, point a second camera at it, turn that into a texture, and apply it to your matrix. 99% pointless.

See my ripples 'n' lights 3 20-line entry for some nice matrix rippling effects.

I was working on a system to imitate matrices using memblocks, which could then be used in exactly the same way as objects. I'd got some pretty nice reflective sine wave objects going using spheremapping, but the normals aren't quite right.
