Anyone notice lately how many adds that Google slips in with their search results?

It's really kind of annoying. It was ok when they were shoved off to the right, but now they are above the real search results (I count 7 on top, 2 on bottom). They are almost never relevant to the searches either, unless I'm looking to buy something that is...

I think Google needs to rethink some things there.

*sigh*

Edit: To clarify. It's not like that on all searches. It depends what you are searching for. But eh...

I guess it depends on what you're searching for, or what country you're in. Here I just searched for something and got no ads at all. :/

Well, their service is free, so it's hard to complain.

I'm suprised that you are suprised to find out google revolves around ads.

I wish there was a way for google to detect that I have never clicked on any ad online and bought anything by clicking on an ad, ever. Once google detects this, it should mercifully turn off ads for me realizing that it is a pointless endeaver and only serves to eat bandwidth.

I've only ever ordered things off Ebay once or twice, and it was the result of my own initiative to seek out a product and purchase it, not the result of psychological jedi mind tricks employed by marketing gurus.

Now that is a good idea. Or at the very least to reduce it drastically. I think programmers crave screen real estate, and the more that is used up by things they don't care about then the more they get annoyed. I'm upto a 1920x1200 resolution and am considering a dual monitor setup or perhaps one of those 30" efforts with 2500x1600 resolution... mmmmm....

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

I know it's always been like that, but lately they seem to think that with some search topics, for instance I searched for the Logitech G11 keyboard, that they don't need to use any sort of placement strategy and just put half the search results as sponsored links. It really has nothing to do with my search at all as I was looking for alternatives to the Logitech G11. All the links were BUY LOGITECH G11. Blah blah.

I don't mind a few adds, or adds placed out of the way, but when the first 7 results are ads on every page, and I have to scroll nearly a full page on a 22" monitor to get to actual search results I think that they are just doing a poor job.

But did google know that? If the query you made was "logitec g11 keyboard" it looks very much like you want to buy one, or at least find a review on it. Be more specific next time: "logitec g11 keyboard -buy"

It doesn't fill up half the screen. Ads are only at the top of the search results and the side. And the top ads aren't really that bad.

See attached.

Even worse, I had a whole page of adsense:
Click

But, I disagree - I'm not annoyed by the ads and I still think they're quite unobtrousive in all of Googles services. Way better than the concurrents, in any case. Like said, use more specific search queries or use something else.

Actually, those links under the top sponsered link aren't paid for at all. They're just the top searches from Google's shopping thingy that they used to call Froogle, just like some things you search for will put a Youtube video at the top of the search. It may actually be possible to turn it off in your preferences.

It's also possible that that's a paid service for froogle users.

I haven't looked into it as it's been a long time since I've used froogle.

[edit]er.. should say "google shopping". I liked the name Froogle better
