Hey all,

Was bumming around a bounty listing and ran across this, got a great laugh from it =D

http://www.getacoder.com/projects/operating_system_42879.html

We can only hope this man is not serious ^_^ Thought I'd share the chuckle with the community!

Cheers,

This sounds similar to (but not entierly like) ReactOS...

The main two differences is that ReactOS is an good idea, since it is aimed at being an free alternative to windows xp and vista, and that it has been in the development for a LONG time.

Quote: "It should have ALL THE FEATURES that Windows Xp Professional has.
ALL the files that run on Windows XP ust also run on the BlueOrb OS.
It must have a very user-friendly interface (like MS WINDOWS XP)
When it gets Installed, the user needs to insert a serial number.
It HAS to be HACKER SAFE!
It must be quick and good looking."

1. This just sounds wiered.
2. This has no originality.
3. Just an wannabe project.
4. I would get ReactOS 1.0 or above instead (when it comes to that, it hasn´t become an beta yet)...

This is my favorite bit:

Quote: "And ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE JUST A REDESIGNED WINDOWS as I'm going to sell that operating system later on."

If anyone were to create a marketable OS, then I'm sure they'd cut out this middle man and sell it themselves. Assuming they sold enough, I'm sure they'd make slightly more than $3000.

Yeah, the

Quote: "And ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE JUST A REDESIGNED WINDOWS as I'm going to sell that operating system later on."

part was quite funny, since

Quote: "It should have ALL THE FEATURES that Windows Xp Professional has.
ALL the files that run on Windows XP ust also run on the BlueOrb OS.
It must have a very user-friendly interface (like MS WINDOWS XP)
When it gets Installed, the user needs to insert a serial number.

would make it just to that (an "redesigned" version of xp). But I think he means that he wants the OS not to be made from an xp that someone modified, but it´s still about the same thing.

I would imagine that's one of the easier parts of making an OS from scratch

Quote: "Hi. I can do this for you next week, when I plan on taking a break from a nonotech based / atomic fission driven search engine thats going to make larry page wet his pants. 6 days to code, 1 to rest. It will be written from scratch and completely original in design, so don't worry about copyright bs. I plan to write the entire OS in C, and blindfolded, if its all the same to you. 100% secure will not be a problem either...In fact the OS will be designed to leverage jedi mind tricks to kill anyone that even thinks about breaking in. (i was thinking maybe make them chop off their feet and jump up and down until their empty would be fair). Anyways, I'm gonna smoke some more [censored by sid], maybe you should do the same. Thanks!"

Dear Sir, I can complete this project for you with ease. My real name is Dave Gates and I am Bill Gates brother. I propose the following: I will steal the latest Vista DVD from my brothers briefcase and will then use ResHacker to change the jpegs and gifs embedded into the EXE's to say BLUEORB. I can also change the bootup sequence and cover this with an image of goatse.cx man with a blue ball in his [censored by sid] (this should be our logo) The serial numbers can stay the same because anyone with a Vista serial can then use blue orb. I will steal DesktopX after that and make it autorun and then hide the program so noone knows what i did. i will make a theme and call it blue orb theme - the desktop image will be goatse.cx man blowing blue bubbles out of a crack pipe stuck in his [censored by sid]. I plan to do all of this while eating the [censored by sid]poured on a salad made out of [censored by sid]sprinkled with [censored by sid] and [censored by sid]. thanks"

lmao, some of the responses were pretty funny.

Then again, some of them made me want to cry...

I am specialized in c++/c,c++ graphics, visual basic,java,oracle(Database),3D graphics softwares like 3D Max,maya, etc.I have practice in modifying the GNU/linux operating system. So I am confident in making a new user friendly operating system. After the skeleton structure of the operating system I will change the appearance according to your taste. I can complete this work within 320 to 340 days."

After reading your post i did a little research and found my problem. 1. The iso wasn't bootable.
2. I tried to write it in DBC classic. Without the enhancement pack.

Darn, i need to learn C++.

Yeah, that's your problem right there. Now if you'd had the expansion pack...

Don't forget the 'Operating System Plugin' available free from the WIP board. I am sure I saw one in there somewhere...

Why all the fuzz, just use the OS template from the guy in the Game Design Theory board?

C++ won't get you that far on its own, you need to use some ASM as well

Wow, I wonder what that OS that is supposed to look entirely different from WinXp will look like... Especially when all he does is refer to that exact OS, stating he want to copy everything from it. Oh, that's right, he clearly explained it to us:

"...stylish look with clear edges, etc."
