So i found this book at the bottom of some bargain bin...

...Looks menacing enough, but its actually a "modern watercolour" book. The amazing fact is that it was published in 1917 and donated to the library by "Mr & Mrs Chesney" in 1951. I did a bit of research(because i thought there could be an off chance it would be worth something) and the only thing i can find is this.
But as you can see the details are quite different, including the published date and the colour of the book, i know the one in the link is classed as the "cheaper edition".
Some more details.
Quote: "Author: Romilly Fedden
Title: Modern Water-Colour Including some chapters on Current-day Art
Published :1917
by: John Murray, London, Albermarle Street, W.
Printed by: Hazell, Watson and Viney, LD.,
London and Aylesbury
England"

Anyone have any ideas about this book? I only bought it because it looked ominous and weird, certainly stands out in my collection though.

I have to admit it does look very demonic, maybe you could take off the cover and glue it onto a more suitable book? Perhaps the Satanic Bible

Blood, the Satanic bible is a good read, I'm saying that out of a religious aspect or sarcasm, just that I enjoyed reading it.

Looks like quite an interesting cover for a book, a book from 1917 I'd find a little valuable, but I suppose if it's not a well known book then I dunno. I'm not an expert on the worth of things or know anything about the book, I think finding a bit of info might require a bit of luck.

Maybe it's the secret society of modern painters and you've found the key to uncovering a major conspiracy...no? Just an idea dude.

If I saw a book cover like that, I'd definitely pick up the book with a cover like that thinking it'd be a story of the occult.

Could you scan some of the pages inside? I'd love to see some.

Can't beat it for 10p eh?

I don't own a scanner anymore, i managed to break mine after i tried to scan meat in for a texture of a monster, don't really use them enough to buy a new one.
The book itself is actually quite interesting, talks about the history and techniques of creating watercolour pieces

How exactly did you break it with that? Was the meat still attached to the animal when you put it on the glass?

It's a cool looking cover.

I can't imagine the juices would do the glass any good. Or the electronics, for that matter.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

Well naturally you'll want to put some kind of transparent film down first...

I was going to have a boosh moment and go on some mad rant about how penguins came in and destroyed my scanner, but i simply dropped it because it was greasy still, i did wrap most of it in cling film beforehand but most likely not very well.

The book doesn't seem that popular or like anyone would be after it so i don't think i'll be delving any further into it or seeing if i can sell it on. Looks pretty decent with my collection and not a bad ice breaker.

I find that a hammer is a better ice breaker than most books.

Now if that's not an excellent quote for a forum signature, I don't know what is.
