I thought you guys might find this interesting. Please don't turn this into yet another debate... just thought this might be neat to know.
So anyway, for those of you who don't read Game Developer Magazine, there's a pretty cool article about ESRB ratings. It shows the percentage of games released per console in each rating category. Here's the percentages, in the order they listed them in GDM:
- XBox 360 -
E = 38.21%
E10+ = 15.99%
T = 28.18%
M = 17.62%
- Wii -
E = 65.60%
E10+ = 16.46%
T = 16.74%
M = 3.19%
- Playstation 3 -
E = 35.80%
E10+ = 11.36%
T = 31.82%
M = 21.02%
Dunno, that sort of shows the target audience for each console... nothing anyone didn't know already, but I found it pretty interesting, figured I'd share. I'm kind of surprised by the low number of "M" titles on the Wii, to be honest... 3.19%? I knew they were targeting younger audiences, but yeesh, that's a lot lower than you'd think when you walk down the aisle in Circuit City.
