Hey all,
I'm redesigning my website (which I do too much),
and I think I may have an official theme for awhile at least.
I created the website in Photoshop CS3, and it's not online yet,
but I have the basics down.

What do you think?
The main content will go where the "paper bag" object is, and the buttons and links will go where the smoother stone object is on the top right. This is my best job ever in photoshop, and figured I'd share it for some opinions, considering I want a future in this field.

So if any of you have crits, be as strict as you want, no offense taken.

EDIT:

For those of you wondering how I did it, it's not hard at all.
I started out with a grey background (760x760) added some Noise, then created a new layer with some grunge splats (brushes). I set that to overlay with opacity of 80 (roughly). Then I used a texture I got online (cgtextures.com). It was a paper bag (non crumpled) type which looked like a rough stone-ish texture, and pasted that as a new layer, and desaturated it, setting it to overlay. I added text with some fonts, etc., and did the same thing for the nav box pretty much, only with different settings.

I then made the outline of the Main Content panel, added a brown color, lightened it, added an overlay texture of crumpled parchment, desaturated it, and set it as overlay for the crumpled effect. Then I topped the whole thing off with a rendered light effect. Haha.

Thanks!

The image looks really good, one complaint as far as it's design goes. Why do the paper bag's creases match with that of the background behind it?

As far as a website goes this might be a bit slow to load as it will be all image based, but it certainly will look pretty nice

Me likes. Same crit as Adam there, the creases line out too well.

I'd like to see the bag blend into the background.

I like that as a design - not entirely sure how clear the text will be on it though...

That is an interesting design.

It is too opaque for my taste. Look at this quick test that I made:

I added 25 saturation points and used "colour curves" modifier to gain contrast change the "lighting". That is just my tates, though.

Make a demostration page to show how the images and text will be exposed. This can be a delicate step.

Cheers.

I don't think that looks as good as Aaron's first one. It looks a bit too colorful and has too much contrast.

I dunno, I like 5Louiz's design better. Even if it is too much contrast, the site has more character with the brighter colors than the dull ones.

Yeah, I don't particularly like the second edited one as much...but I'll see what I can do. Because for a grungy website, that edited version is too saturated... But again, I'll see what I can do.

Ok, I've updated it a little bit. I now have sample title text, paragraph text, and buttons. The buttons are nice, but I personally am leaning towards the bottom one, with smaller, Arial font.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

EDIT: I may just use Inline Frames on the paper, so users can scroll down, and I can include more content.

(Double Post)

This is a new one, I think I'll stick with the following lighting/saturation for my final site. I'm still gonna wait to hear from people about the buttons/text though.

Aaron Glass? That's a brilliant name.

Yeah, you need to sort out the creases. I also think that I prefered the darker background with bold text, but then...

No, seriously, that's a fantastic name to have. It's kinda filmstar-esque.

I look back on previous designs, and I realize I forgot to add a border around the edge of the image, for a background image will not tile or anything correctly with a light effect on the image.
