If you edit a post with backslashes ("\") in, they get stripped even from code blocks.

Not if you just post without editing though.

Test: \\\ 7 slashes.

[on editing, I saw it as you see it now: 3 slashes. So it's when displaying, not when saving. Could even be a FF bug?

It might be a coding thing.

It's a coding thing. The backslash is used in PHP to 'escape' things and that could cause confusion for the code. Most notably if you get a posting error with apostrophes, you'll get a \' instead of just ' - that's because otherwise the forum might error on ya .

It's a bug with the forum, but I'm not totally sure exactly when it occurs. I've noticed that it shows up a lot more frequently in new users' posts where every single ' has a backslash by it, making it very annoying to read. And then, as you say, when editing, they sometimes disappear. So far, I haven't been able to notice a consistency of when it happens, but I haven't really been trying to debug the forum.
