It's been reported in various places on the net today that nVidia have stopped taking new orders for the 8800 Ultra.

Don't get upset though I'm sure they will replace it with a new king of the graphics cards very soon... rumored to be 2x 8800GT stuck together but requiring only 1 PCI-E slot!

nVidia has quitly sneaked out a little baby called the 8800GS. It's claimed to be about 75% the speed of a 8800GT, 192bit bus, 384mb RAM and a price point of about £100-115. Rumor has that there will be a 768mb version for a few quid more.

I think a better name would have been 8700GT as it's gona cause 8800 confusion for the punters, "Which is better a GS or a GT? The one with the most memory?" I can hear them saying now.

I guess this means 8600GTS should be pushed down to £75 now, but realy it was never worth £100 it was just an overclocked 8600GT

They can name it '8900', which would be a lot better, as it would imply that is was better than an 8800. Unless they have plans for a 8900 and need to keep the name free, then why not 8850, etc?

Interesting. nVidia's correspondent to crossfire. I want to see that.

hahah Great! I always thought that crossfire was a single card.

Edit:
But I still think that I understand harware better than I did three years ago. If you asked me what my hardware consisted in, I answered "512 of ram and WinXP".

ATI R600? Was that it?

There's reports of these ATI cards all over the net. In fact one quote I remember was "If you have an nVidia 8800 GTX card, just return it to get your money back and get an ATI ~~~~~~." Where ~~~~~ was the name of the card I can't remember... <ATI R600??>

Cheers,

-naota

With any luck you'll be able to turn a fully functioning program to a crashing program with just a little bit of coding.

The more I look at those specs the more I'm sure it shouldn't have been labeled a 8800 as it damages the brand. 8700 would have been ideal for it.

Just remmber the next time an ATI fan says their 3870 is faster than a 8800 they are talking about the GS version

Sorry, didn't see that, wasn't a dig at you Was just refering to ATI fans in general in a single 3870 v 8800GT test.

There's a nice crossfire v sli benchmark test here if anyone interested in running 2 cards. http://www.hothardware.com/articles/ATI_Radeon_HD_3870_and_3850_55nm_RV670/?page=7
