Ok, so about 6-7 months ago i decided to build a game engine, i never really thought i'd get past the import function before quitting, well, i'm all the way up to saving entire maps that the engine has made and loading them so obviously i'm doing something right!, this game engine will be one of the first Space Simulation/Combat engines that i know of to be made in DBP, aside from Final Exodus of course, (hence why i say, one of the first instead of the first.) my game engine will feature alot of things, like:

Load, Save, Exit, Undo, Redo, Import, Account Manager.
Isometric, Orthogonal, Normal(FreeFlight), Cinematic, RTS, FPS, 3rd Person Camera Modes.

View Help, About, Media Viewer.

System, Environment, Planet, Nebula, Faction, Race, AI, Ship, Weapon, Physics, Shader, Cutscene, Effects(Particle) editors

alot of those features are already finished as well.

enough babbling, time for some screenshots!

Dude, that last planet looks REALLY dull and dark

Here's a satellite image of Venus.

See how the lighting is compared to your planets?

It's more intense, shadows are much darker, and the lighted areas are much brighter.

DarkCoder has it right on Final Exodus

Thats nonsense, Xeno. Depending on the distance to the star, a planet doesn't need to have lightning at all. You just happen to have chosen a close planet.

Wow, good job

Only bit of critique from me would be the amount of stars. I know realistically there are tons of them, but you have a pattern going on and it's easy to tell. What I would do is create a small star texture program that randomly positions white pixels around and makes a .jpg file of it. One time use program =]. And maybe, if you could pull it off, when you get near a planet or the suns in view or something the stars fade or their are less of them.

A little, thanks for the interest, we're actually in the process of doing an engine re-write, mainly for optimizations.

So, you're all going to have a giggle at this, a recent virus called Win32 Banker, totally killed my HDD, leaving me with no other option but to reinstall windows, while im picking a drive to install it on i noticed the virus cleared almost all of my HDD's, needless to say, the particle engine was a total loss, i'm going to start on rebuiling it right away.

Ouch.. That sucks.

I wish I could get my sun to look like that. Any chance you could share the technique you used? (not necessarily the code, just describe the technique if you would.)

Thanks.

That did not sound good. Viruses are really annoying. In order to prevent it from happening in the future, you can always backup it on USB pens. Really bad it happened. Well, if the rewritten version of the particle engine become better then the previous one, maybe the virus did you an favour... that was just me trying to be positive . Good luck with the rewrite.
