Wow more interesting kit for 2008, fast DDR3 that you normaly only find in graphics cards can now be put into system RAM slots.

If your P35 motherboard won't let you install more than 3Gb RAM how about upgrading to faster RAM instead?

2x1GB Scan TwinPack DDR3 PC3-14900 (1800MHz) £310.20

For a bit more economy 1600Mhz is available from £133

First time I've ever seen it in stock in the UK shops. Sorry if it's old news

I expect to use it on a P35 motherboard you just overclock and leave the the memory multiplier alone so it cranks up over 1066.

There's supposed to be a Q6600 price drop in March, think I'll build a fast budget system with 3x RAID 0 drives

gddr3 is not the same as ddr3, afaik. But ye, it's hella cool. But wayyy to expensive for the benefit. Far better off buying that extra 8800gts or spending the money on a nicer processor

Yes, there's a difference between GDDR3 (graphics cards) and DDR3 (regular RAM), GDDR5 is not far away last I heard.

Anyways, the problem with "cheap" DDR3 memory is that they have high latencies. It's not only the MHz that tells you how good a RAM is. A high clock can make up for the difference but you must be aware that the latencies eats up some of the speed increase, and are you willing to pay for what's left? Prices will drop as DDR3 becomes standard, early adopters beware.

I'm not into motherboards, just make sure the one you got supports DDR3. Also high speeds don't make up for volume. When you run out of RAM your hard drive will do the work for you and that's always very slow.

This kind of stuff got old way back. Like when they said that ddr2 ram was faster than ddr1, but it actually came out that PC3200 (ddr400) ram performed as well as PC6400 (ddr2 800) ram, and all the ddr2 models below ddr2 800 were slower than ddr400. Mhz goes up, latency goes up, speed remains the same (mostly).
