I seem to remember a few years ago around when V1.10 came out one of the updates mentioned DirectX8, but I can't find anything in my update archives about it, so I might well be dreaming.

It could be that it was when the Enhancement Pack was released.

Maybe the standard un-enhanced version of DBC still has DX7 as the minimum requirements but the later versions which now have the EP built-in now require DX8.

At the end of the day, DB uses whatever DX is installed on your system. Mine has DX9 but DBC still works...

Just to be clear, you can't really use the advanced functionality beyond direct x 7 (and the directx 7 functions that are available are even somewhat limited with DBC) like skin deformation, or shaders, or fx files, or vertex coloring.

Like TDK_Man said the req of 8.1 might be due to libraries or better managed code that was available in DX 8.1 and included in DBC as the versions increased.

Enjoy your day.

@Ed222

It is a bit unfortunate, but part of the challenge, in my opinion, is making DBC do things that it may not have seemed possible to do with it. The basics are there, it's what the programmer can do with those basics that will really hone your skills. But of course, the whole point of DarkBASIC is to use a language that makes it as easy as possible to use Direct X and as much of it's functionality as possible to make as good a game as possible, and that falls more into the DBpro arena.

Enjoy your day.

Anything beyond DirectX7 for Dark Basic just dosn't seem necessary. If your a commercial programmer or game creator and you want the ease of Dark Basic you'd probably use DarkGDK right?

In my opinion it's funner to create games with older features. It makes it a whole lot simpler anyway right?

If you want speed and don't mind taking the time to learn, I thought that The Game Creators basically stated that DarkGDK can run circles around DarkBasicPro. (just because it's C++ vs Basic)

I still favor, at least for now, Basic; as C++ is hard to understand. ;-(

DBPro will always be faster than DBC, but a very good DBC coder can write a program that is faster than the same program written by a very bad programmer in DBPro!

Put another way, speed alone isn't the only reason you would want to upgrade to DBP. If your DBC programs run slow because they are badly written they will still be badly written in DBPro - and still run slow!

@TDK
True but if it's a good programmer on dbc vs good programmer on dbp the dbp users program will beat the crud out of dbc.

@James McGlocken
Yes Dark Gdk is faster but I don't think this is right for me right now I mean I'm only xx.
