Could it be true? Could the fantastic Gizmondo be making a come back?

I still have an original one which works brilliantly as a Sat Nav and it was a really nicely spec'd little machine. The new one is supposed to be 'open' too, which is a major improvement over the old one. A hack came out to enable you to install unsigned software (mostly emulators) but it wasn't until the end of the companies life - and the SDK was never publicly available.

The main down side of this is that its Carl Freer behind it still. Although he wasn't the one (allegedly) linked directly to corruption, embezzlement, the Swedish mafia and crashing a Ferrari Enzo which turned out to be owned by a Scottish bank, his name is still associated with all those things via Gizmondo. The good news is that he is working with Cambridge based Plextek.

Now all we need is for a new N-Gage, and say, a handheld version of the phantom, and the gaming world is complete...

But it's a relatively cheap hand-held that allows you to play games, watch movies, listen to music, view images and read e-books. It supports SD cards and replaceable AA batteries and now a stylus as well. It's based on Linux so there are plenty of emulators available and anyone can develop for it.

Kinda like a mix of a DS and a PSP that fully supports homebrew but doesn't have much in terms of games available. Also lacks Wi-Fi. But the cradle is pretty cool, allows connection to a TV and up to 4 USB devices. Do take a look at the movie of F200

DS can do all of those.. But i really like the linux support! Thats what every handheld should have

And i really wonder why it lacks of games.. I mean its really powerful system but i think its cuz it hasnt been adversited much.

TBH I think it's commercial suicide to go up against the DS and PSP, handheld market it thoroughly taken care of as it is.

The main benefit is the homebrew, both making it and using it - there's even talk of a non-code game creation package for it which would be a lot of fun.

But I'd never buy one, not once they look at the figures, realise that to make any money they'll have to charge a fortune for it, or come up with some nasty way to cripple the user into paying more for it after buying it. Nice idea, wrong decade.

less is more, but if less is more how you keeping score?

It's not like it's cheap for what you get compared to DS and PSP. You get a lower powered device, that have less money spent on marketing and OS development. There are two advantages of buying a GP2X and those are emulators and homebrew. The only reason I would buy one (had I money to spare) would be to play SNES games.

Remember you can spend far less and buy a flash-kit for your DS to play emulated games and homebrew.

EDIT:

But I forgot to mention I still want one of those new F-200s. Sleek!
