Quoted from the link above:
Quote: "Microsoft has offered to buy the search engine company Yahoo for $44.6bn (£22.4bn) in cash and shares.

The offer, contained in a letter to Yahoo's board, is 62% above Yahoo's closing share price on Thursday.

Yahoo cut its revenue forecasts earlier this week and said it would have to spend an additional $300m this year trying to revive the company.

It has been struggling in recent years to compete with Google, which has also been a competitor to Microsoft.

"We have great respect for Yahoo, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market," Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said.""

So, what do you think? Since October 2007, Yahoo's shares have fallen by a whopping 46%, maybe Microsoft could breathe some new life into it?

I personally never used Yahoo, and have always favoured Google over it, but Yahoo on it's own stands no chance against Google IMO.

Absolutely crazy,

I use yahoo everyday, oh well. Let's see how it goes. I think things will turn out for the worse. They usually do.

I use them both. One for mail and one for searching. Nothing will ever beat google untill they start adding ads everywhere.

Well, Yahoo IM is better than MSN, from what I can tell. It has better features (and all of the same ones), it loads and operates faster... oh yeah, and you add your MSN friends to your YIM list. And, while Yahoo Mail is buggy and they're less reliable than UPS, They've recently started turning things around and bettering their services across the board. For instance, unlimited storage space in your inbox now, better customization tools, etc. For all the ripping people do on Yahoo (including me, lol, I'm not innocent here), they really have turned things around. I just hope M$ doesn't buy them out as they're going to simply ruin all of the good qualities of Yahoo like they ruin everything else :/

It's just one step closer to Microsoft ruling the world.

Microhoo!, that would be weird But I dont think they'll change much with Yahoo's brand, as that is what makes it well known. Maybe they'll try to relate it more to msn.

I personally couldn't see Yahoo turning this down, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, good point, Hotmail allows for only up to 5GB of storage, but I have thousands of emails and haven't even used more than 1% of it.

I never use Yahoo, I used to, but hey Google got me, it'd be interesting to see what MS do with their newly acquired company - though I'd probably still stick with Google as it fulfills my searching and email needs.

Though I hope it won't effect the accounts of its users and force them over to the MS ones...or even stuff connected with Live, anything that has 'live' on it has been a memory drain for me on both my desktop and Laptop (not so much my desktop, Windows Live OneCare ran smoothly on it)

Oh and no doubt it'll need a revamp...

Windows Yahoo Live...of course to live up to its title, all of its products should be made to only work with Windows designed software or OS.

Yahoo? Never use it. The one time I did use its services Avast went mad at me, and shut down the website due serious threaths. Never bothered to even look at something that had Yahoo in it since.

I haven't been to yahoo.com in 9 years. Hard to believe anyone still uses it as a search engine.

I think the main items are the Yahoo Messenger, and Yahoo Answers. Yahoo Answers seems to be very popular, in fact, a few years ago when it was first launched I think I was a member there.

i LOVE yahoo, the website fits my needs perfectly, and personally, i haven't found one flaw in its e-mail services. If Microsoft gets rid of the yahoo web page of moves yahoo users to MS accounts then i will switch to g-mail. On the other hand, yahoo's search engine is very bad, and for searching i stick with Google.

Yahoo!, declined the deal. Microsoft will have to raise it if they want it.

I heard that Yahoo was closing in on google in the quality of search results. They have been implementing new systems and stuff for awhile. PC magazine said that Yahoo was becoming a real contender once more, so maybe Microsoft has some ideas to put 'em over the top.
