I have to do this survey for some economics coursework, and theres a good number of people on here that may be willing to participate Its about oil and where Brtian should obtain it from. No political debates please.

It would be helpful if some of you could take part, all you have to do is select the option you think is best (economically) It is generally about the pros and cons of importing oil (buying it from elsewhere) against getting oil out of the North Sea. In summer 2007 the UK got approx. 75% of its oil from Norway btw.

1. Britain should depend fully on importing oil from other nations.
2. Britain should get most of their oil from other nations, but invest a small amount in obtaining fossil fuels from British land as well.
3. 50% of Britains oil should come from abroad, 50% from Britain itself.
4. Most of Britains oil should come from the north sea, but a small amount of cash could be spent on imports.
5. All of Britains fuel should come from British territory like the North Sea.

Thanks in advance

I think any other option would "close doors" futher down the line...

Anybody else willing to participate? It would be a major help if you could, and it shouldnt take that long.

i vote we turn nuclear.

i think tbh we need more statistics to go with this, being an economist myself.

it may be cheaper to import oil on mass than to produce it ourselves, in which case car fuel and many household goods would be cheaper. on the other hand, producing our own oil would decrease the likelihood of oilshocks and sudden price rises, though knowing our gvt, we'd be given massive tax hikes instead.

Because the oil is cheaper to get to and when it runs out, it will be clearer to our ahem inspirational politicians that we turn nuclear or renewable. However a small investment in stable countries oil is wise.
Though I am interested to see what Gordon Brown and his motley crew will do with the old nuclear power stations. I know you have to encase them in concrete for over 50 years before you can take them apart and resell the materials and I don't think that people nearby will like the sight of great big blocks of concrete more than they like windfarms. maybe theey will paint them in camoflage colours to apease the whinning mobs.
By the way, good luck with your coursework. I'm in first year of my GCSE and doing economics as well.
