This is what it says at the start of this thread from TDK:

Quote: "[Edit] To avoid confusion with earlier versions, only the last posted version of the Ultimate Pong zip will be available to download. (This will always be in the last download post in the thread).

All other download zips will be removed from my server and as such will create download errors if clicked on.

You can`t delete files(like mine) that are on other servers like Mediafire, can you?

Oooooops!!! I accidentally formated drive c.

@TheComet
I took that to mean TDK's versions of ultimate pong.
I don't think gUESS's zip is on TDK's server.

In DBC it runs between 540 and 560 fps on my machine. With 4 other apps running.

I'm not sure. The mouse control perhaps if the movement was in two dimensions. If in one dimension, it should be allowed to overshoot that way you can miss a shot. Controlling a paddle with a keyboard is difficult if it moves too fast.

Enjoy your day.

Yes, I'm only talking about the zips of my version you can download. I can't delete anyone else's downloads!

Then why the hell can I only get 60fps???

@Latch

I just uploaded my zip file with the attachment thing that the forum has. I don't know if that has anything to do with TDK's server or not.

Also could the exe I uploaded be crashing crashing for you because I have it running at a screen resolution of 1024x768 with 32 bit depth?

You are trying to use the old version 3 download link. Use the V4 download link instead.

It alternates between 59 and 60 in DBC and 1062 in DBPro.

If you don't just set sync to 0 does it make a difference? What if you set sync to 80, does it do anything or still shows 60/61?

I added this ini file to the directory where the pong.exe lives. I used the startup settings to change it to windowed mode. I now get a pretty steady fps at 30 or 31. Sometimes it sneaks up to 33. You might not be able to tell the difference between windowed mode and full screen mode because of that weird 61 fps limit on your machine - but it seems windowed mode is faster for an exe.

@gUESS
I simply can't downloaded it. It only loads about 1.8 of 3.5mb . I've always had problems though with the TGC post attachments.

Enjoy your day.

Alright then, I don't really have any other place to upload so if someone wants to then that will be fine. I'm kind of working on a newer version right now ("kind of" as in I've been playing Enemy Territory during most of my free time).

TDK, is there still a competition or something still going on? I ask this because all I really see is just mostly your entry.
I am making some major progress inculding multiple levels and some cool particle effects but I don't want to post it until I have a decent menu working (currently I just have it more like a console).

OK, I've added an options now screen where you can disable the reflections, (the only option that works at the moment). It's also set to run in a widow as default because that seems to give a few more fps.

However, in windowed mode I still only get 63 fps (and setting the Sync rate to 80 or 100 makes no difference for me so I left it at 0).

Oddly enough, when I turn reflections off, (which literally deletes the objects concerned) I still only get 63 fps.

So, I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe my system is capping at around 60 fps and I could add many, many more objects without affecting the fps - as opposed to showing the true fps which changes as objects are added/removed.

Could some of you try this version please and let me know if turning reflections off gives you any increase in fps - especially if you were saying previously that earlier versions ran too slow for you.

Not necessary - I downloaded it with no problems. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong at the server end anyway.

There never was a competition. I just made the point that everyone tells noobs to start with something simple like Pong, but the chances were that the people doing the telling (including me) had never even written it themselves.

That evolved into trying to make the 'ultimate' game of Pong and I said I was going to attempt it. I just challenged everyone else to come up with their own version - especially as it was so easy to do.

But, I guess that some are too busy with other projects... or Pong is too difficult for them...

Here is my newest version of my pong game, which I now renamed to Lava Ball.
Menu is still just a place holder until I get everything sorted out.

This version includes:
* 2 additional levels that you can select from the menu
* Terrain hit detection (can detect what type of terrain the ball is on)
* New customizable particle system

Note: This version runs on a high screen resolution so it might be slow on other computers. I plan to make this customizable when I get the main menu finished.

@gUESS

That is a really good game you got going there, for pong it was suprisingly fun. I liked the partical effects and sounds they add so much to the game.

@TDK

I'll download yours now and update my post.

edit:

It looks really polished TDK. One thing I can't belive is how slow it is, I know I don't have a great computer but I can run most DBPro projects at 60 fps while I only get 30 on this and that if I turn of reflections. I know its not your coding skills as your like, the best. Anyway, it took to long for it to get to be even a challenge for me I had to wait like two minutes before it even was really all that fun. Other then that is great.

Wow your game is suprisingly fun My compliments to you

@ TDK
Your game is really cool and shiny, but I have one problem... I cant win The game has gone on for like 5 minutes, with the paddle going extremely fast, but the A.I always seems to know where to go, I cant get enough control of where im directing the ball

Yeah, I think it needs to have more of an effect on it when you hit it while moving so you can direct the ball a little better.

If you are going to implement some kind of angle modifier (can't think of better words) may I suggest basing it on how much the mouse/paddle is moving not on the offset from the centre of the paddle.
That way you can spin the ball like table tennis
Oooh that's a point, could you implement spin so that the ball's path curves? Would be awesome

Glad you guys had fun playing.

I am still working on this but I would like some help. I am not that good at making 3d models at all so if anyone would like to help out they can.

What I need is something that will act as the background terrain model that surrounds the playing field. You can try and create something for the existing levels (except prometheus fields as that is just more of a test level).

If you want to see how your level works in game I've actually included a way for you to insert a model into the level with the game I've last uploaded. Just open the level file you want it loaded with and at the third line is where the path for the level model goes. Additionally, if you scroll down more I have a list of what the lines in the file is what.
The playing field in the game is 150x150 units in DBC so that you can size your model correctly.

I probably won't release anything anytime soon as most of what I've done in the game isn't visual at all. I'm also trying add/replace some media.

Anyways have fun playing with the level files. I hope people can figure out how to customize them well. I hope to add a menu where people can pick out there own custom level that they make soon enough.

Your game is the best I have seen! But I don`t know how you made that fire come out of the crator... I could only find one image. Did you do that with one image, or is there some animation?

I meant the burning fire that looked like fire. You know, like a real fire. Not the particles

Unless your talking about the stuff on the ground then they are just very well used particles.(your talking about the pillers of fire right?)

Yes those pillars of fire are particles. The reason why it probably looks so good is because I am using a lot of them and I also scale them depending on how long they have been activated. Every moving graphical effect you see is actually part of my particle system.

Hope you guys don't mind me double posting but I have a newer version.

This version of Lava Ball includes:
* Improved GUI and menu and also includes a proper loading screen
* Timer-based movement so the game will run properly no matter what your frame-rate is
* Improved added added various other things that are not visible or obvious

Please note that the two levels Prometheus River and Smash Field are not really "official". They are more levels I through together for demonstrations and testing. Any feed back on the game is appreciated.

I also have one question. Do you guys think that this would be good enough for the WIP board? I do plan on adding a whole lot more to it as I am having fun making this.

Anyways, I'll be gone for a little bit and I have lots of school going on so I probably won't be able to work on it that much for the next week or so.
