this is one of my favorite games of all time.

despite of the age i have a strange graphics problem with this game. In the options menu, whenever i turn on hardware acceleration (make the game look much better) the game crashes. I tried fiddling with drivers turning acceleration on and off. But in think my 8800m GTX is just an overkill for this. I can play it without hardware acceleration but the shadows look crummy.

anyone by any chance knows a solution to this problem?

Ahhh, those were the days... I used to mod and map that game before I started with actual game design stuff. Fun... Sorry though. I'd just have to guess there's some sort of driver issue with the new cards... :\

A similar thing happens with me with Populous: The Beginning. If I switch to the desktop when running in hardware accelerated mode my PC crashes. Luckily it's such an ancient game I can play it in software mode just fine.

I, too, play Populous in software mode, because I get DB-esque weirdness on the edges of transparent objects in hardware mode.

This is Direct X weirdness. Not DB. It's just some people are more clever at controlling the issue
