I know that there is already a thread about this, but it's dead and hasn't been visited since '06, so:

Who's your all-time favorite band???

Mine is Three Days Grace, hands down the best band ever!!! (Pic of them is my avatar)

Check them out at http://www.threedaysgrace.com
or go to http://music.yahoo.com/ar-302827---Three-Days-Grace. TDG ROCKS!!!

I too like One Republic, not my top though.

Probably The Police because I like Sting, but also Kansas, Boston and Journey. Oldies FTW!

Apologize was good, but that album of theirs has some songs I just can't get out of my head. Time to ask for an "angel of mercy" in that regard, maybe .

Don't really have any favourite bands. Listen mostly to Game\movie soundtacks and classical. Things change though. Last year it was all about Rammstein and System of a Down.

This message was brought to you by Grandma industries.

Sure it was 2006 we last did this???? Pretty sure it is about once a month.

I could relist the same old thing of Sisters of Mercy, Nirvana, GNR, Metallica, My Bloody Valentine, INXS, Led Zep, blah blah blah, but my all time favourite band is Def Leppard.

Going to see Def Leppard and Whitesnake in London at the end of June. Whoop!!!!

Cheers

Actually these days I can just use my Facebook iTunes myTracker. Very nice (no little prog in background, is actually a hidden visualisation for iTunes. Nice).

1. Def Leppard 801 - Obviously!!!
2. INXS 595 - Oh yeah...
3. The Beatles 484 - Who doesn't?
4. Motley Crue 308 - Surprise...
5. Guns N' Roses 306 - Oh yes
6. My Bloody Valentine 264 - Try them, you may really love them
7. Led Zeppelin 263 - Classic
8. Fleetwood Mac 217 - Addictive...
9. Linkin Park 178 - I'm not all oldies...
10. The Sisters Of Mercy 177 - Awesome awesome awesome!!!!!
11. Nirvana 153 - Now and again my favourite band ever
12. Blur 151 - Addictively annoying pop monkeys
13. Kiss 139 - Who doesn't love Kiss?
14. Chicago 125 - I know I know...
15. Bee Gees 117 - Don't care. Love it!
16. Soundgarden 106 - Sometimes awesome. But a lot of tat...
17. Paul McCartney 89 - Actually pretty good..
18. Whitesnake 88 - Got to love them...
19. Bon Jovi 78 - It's got a good beat to it (old joke)...
20. Roxette 77 - Heheheheh

Obviously some are higher than they should be, and some are lower, but this is only a snapshot of a couple of months since using the tracker. For example Pink Floyd would be in my real top 10, but I played them to death when I was younger.

Cheers

Pearl Jam, ever since Ten, some 18 years ago (now I feel old, thanks guys D=)

I notice a lot of Nirvana fans here... Nevermind was a great album, one of the best ever, but the thing that puts me off is every other studio album by Nirvana . Personally I think they took a lot of limelight away from the scene, other bands really deserved recognition at the time and Nirvana absorbed it all, not their choice of course.

Quote: "Even Johnny Cash"
Heard his version of the NiN (another band I used to listen to all the time, but played to death) song "Hurt"? Bloody brilliant. Watch the video where they say a month or so afterwards his wife is dead (she is watching him sing the song looking really sad like she knows he will die soon). Then he died like a month after that or so. God!!!! If you never listen to any other song he sings (and I pretty much haven't) then just listen to that one song. Always gets me. Best to have a really upbeat glam rock effort after that one I find Same thing with Radiohead.

Cheers

Oh and Manic Street Preachers/The Stone Roses were some of my favourite bands as a kid. Again, overdose of playing and they don't even appear on my top 20 tracker list (about 3 months of tracking or so).

yeah, and hey you read my mind.

I was going to include Maniac Street Preachers.
A very good friend of mine introduced me to their songs.

Awwww....there are so many.
Ranging from the Doors, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, the Zombies, to Wishbone Ash, SuperTramp, Iron Butterfly, Twisted Sister, Kiss, AC/DC, the Black Byrds, K.C and the Sunshine Band, the Ohio Players,
Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, Jethro Tull, and Jefferson Starship.

I have a whole lots of bands and songs.

here is a link to The Party.

Yep. Lots of stuff I listen to quite a lot. Currently going through a small Soundgarden revival just to take a little limelight away from Nirvana (Black hole sun and Spoonman are really as good as it gets).

According to my Last.fm account:

Porcupine Tree
Radiohead
Blackfield

I think Blackfield is probably higher than it should be, so maybe replace that with Pink Floyd or something.

Well, all time favorite would have to be Dark Lotus(Band formed by combining Insane Clown Posse & Twiztid), but they're the only rap kinda music I listen to.

My favorite changes on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. It just depends on what mood I'm in.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of A Perfect Circle, so they're my current favorite...I could probably post here again in a few days with a different favorite band.

As for some other all time favorites, Coal Chamber, Nightwish, Hurt, Disturbed, Slipknot, Sevendust, etc...

the shins - loved then since the moment they spawned from flake music.

The figurines - equally love them. Crazy vocals and awesome hooks

Iron and wine - when I go to sleep, Sam sings softly to me

Sufjan Stevens - love.this.guy. Probably some of the best story telling I've heard.

Ben harper - great live, he gets better the more be releases!

Ennio Morricone - the mission. Best soundtrack ever.

Muse - meh who doesn't like em?

So that's me!

Blender3D - GIMP - WINXP - DBPro

Quote: "floyd and a lot less linkin park (can't stand them)"
I would put Floyd right up there, and I even love the solo albums (Amused to death is an absolute must in anyones collection). A few years back I would probably listen to them 25% of the time. I mean c'mon, aren't they the last part before you get your BSc? Practically mandatory for CS students at the time to love Floyd (and Jarre and Vangelis).

And Linkin Park was literally in the last month. Mainly because I asked my bird what music she liked and her favourite band is these. Not bad. Just not as good overall as what I like

I don't care what music you like (even if it is that lame grunge music (It's just an opinion, you can't get mad )) as long as you don't call it Alternative. As they say in San Andreas "Alternative to what?", give it a fricking name! Calling it alternative is like saying "I don't listen to THAT music, I listen to the OTHER music."

For me I don't know but Guns 'n' Roses come pretty high, best all-round band ever?
Some of the Beatles stuff I love, some of it I hate.
I don't know?
I don't think you can really choose a favourite because they are all influenced by their predecessors.

Alternative was called that originally because it was an alternative to mainstream music - of course now a lot of what we label 'alternative' is mainstream (Nirvana I'd say is definitely mainstream, as an example of grunge, but it carries the alternative label), so the word is meaningless, but alternative really applies to anything with guitars, drums and bass that isn't boy-bandish and it covers a huge range of styles. Pop music isn't necessarily the most popular, Pink Floyd is more popular than 50 Cent and people say Pink Floyd is alternative (to be broad, to be more specific you'd say progressive rock/metal)...so the original meanings don't really apply. Thus grunge music falls under alternative. So broad labels in music aren't to be taken literally (where as things like 'viking death metal' are fairly precise about what they mean)

Yes indeed, Amon Amarth, most of their stuff is based on the mythologies, which is awesome - such as my favourite mythology, the death of baldr and hermod's ride to hel (which so happens to be a song name)

Of course great viking/pirate metal bands, Turisas and Alestorm and am going to see them in March (hooray)

I saw Killswitch Engage (one of my very very favorite bands) yesterday at the Brisbane soundwave festival
they were amazing, and at the beginning i was right at the front of the mosh pit and no more than 3 meters away from them. but by the end i got forced back about 5 meters into a nice open circle (where i could actually breath lol)

and Adam D (their guitarist) was as funny as ever with his coarse sense of humour
