I'll be taking out my old mobo CPU etc to replace it with this stuff in my Thermaltake armor full tower case, or should i go with a intel system...any input would be nice...this system will be used for gaming probably a little graphic design and hosting servers for games like sins of a solar empire CS:S or whatever else i might need to host via lan or internet to chill with friends and what not.

As Nex stated having money is the big problem #1 reason i want ot go AMD...plus the 2MB shared dosnt appeal to me, but do you think it'd run faster? The processor i want is a dual core cpu with 2 1MB L2 cache. Besides that i planned on over-clocking the cpu to about 3GHZ sincei ts a 2.6 shouldn't be to hard.

I see no Core 2 Duos there for a similar price. And I know that AMD is good enough, because the downstairs PC in this house has a 3400+ which blitzes through Oblivion, which makes even the 3400 enough for quite a while I think.

Heh i also know little to nothing about which cores for intel are good or what i spend most of my time with AMD and the only system in my house that is Intel is the laptops and only one is dual core with a C2D in it.

I'd think even if i went with the cheapest C2D i could get the ram i have would still make the AMD seem pretty fast. But i did ask for input and i'll shop around for the intel and see what i can get, any input would be nice for the intel side since i know nothing about it pretty much.

Well, intel procs over clock really well if you get the right mobo. But looking at a speed comparision, your amd proc appears to beat out the lowest price c2d, so you can't go wrong at that price

I don't know how much the l2 cache makes a difference, (2x 1mb cache or 2mb shared cache), the difference is likely in the fsb, as the low end c2d only run at a 800mhz speed.

Either way you'd be happy with that setup

Yeah im still looking at the Intels and if i had the cash i'd definitely get me a c2d but the motherboards are not cheap either all i need is a Mobo with PCI express 2.0 but they are like 300$ so amd here i come i guess =) but i like AMD anyways...never had a bad experience with intel or amd but somehow amd hooked me.

Found out with my mobo ifi wanna run 1066 i gotta buy a quad-core cpu which by all means is no biggie to me =P its only 100$ more but man, that sort of sucks oh well atleast in the long run i won't have to upgrade for awhile.
