I am currently setting up my floors and scenes in maya for doing some really nice cutscenes. (I get the fun pleasure of rejointing(boning) each of the models to work with maya (yay)

But I am concerened about the overall quality of these models for cutscene purposes (I have tried smoothing them and converding to subdivision surfaces) but without a bunch of work or starting over from scratch, I just don't think they will do Does anyone know if there are higher quality versions of these models available?

I have attached some maya converted .x files textured to show my issue with quality.

thanks

I don't how to do this in Maya, but you need to select all verts and do a low threshold weld to get rid of the facted look. Beyond that, yeah, the quality isn't going to be that great on a cutscene, but you might be able to squeeze some more quality out of it if you can add some fancy environmental render effects or some good lighting with shadows.

Contact DarkFact somehow. I believe he used maya, and he made cutscenes for Darkfaction 1.

Thanks for the info bond, the body smoothed out okay, but texture turned to swiss cheese when placed on the model. I will play around with it and see what I can figure out. Thanks

I will contact darkfact and see what he has to say.

Thanks

Hey Jeremiah, again I don't know Maya, but maybe look for an option or checkbox that says "preserve UV's". At least that's how you do it in max when you want to make changes to a model but preserve texture coordinates.

I looked for that and haven't found that option, I am going through all of my books, hoping to find an answer on this.

Thanks Bond

YOu can use:

edit polygons:
Merge vertices

to stop the meshes looking so faceted.
Bear in mind too that once you apply a specular and normal map to the mesh, the facets are less visible in the render anyway.

Is there not an autosmooth function like in Max? It doesn't actually change any polies, it just alters the apparent lighting to make it look smooth.
