Used, but newer. I was hoping some folks here could give me a few ideas. I test drove an '03 Mercedes E320 today and it wasn't too bad. After talking with my insurance company, an '03 Jaguar S-type R is in my affordable range now at about as much to insure as the mercedes, but the Mercedes costs about $5k more initially. And then finally on my list, the cheaper of the three, is an '04 300m much like the one I used to drive. I like big, I like powerful, I like luxury. I ruled out Audi because the A4 is too small and a used A6 costs too much. I haven't ruled out a BMW 545i, but haven't seen prices quite as low as I would like to find yet.

So, any suggestions of what else I could possibly consider? To be honest, I'd like a Holden Caprice, but that's not an option in the States. I shoulda moved to Aussie years ago like I said.

Frickin' awesome car, my cousins have one (they're 25) and it's so smooth.

I probably couldn't give too much advice, since i'm not in the USA, but just don't do what I did. (don't ask)

I'd say, once you've had jap, you never go back. Jap cars do it for me every time - best balance of performance, reliability and gadgetry. The only thing they lack is the plush interiors and sometimes styling. I don't like Mercs because the build quality is quite poor. If you own a Merc, you want to own it under manufacturers warranty, cos you'll be taking it back a lot. Audis are lovely, but they're overpriced. They make a great car, to the standard of other great cars, and then add 50% extra to the price. Beamers are nice solid cars, and I'd say if you can source one in the price range you're after, that's you best bet.

But personally, for me, Jap jap jap all the way.

The mercedes e-class has the same suspension as a chrysler 300, which I'm used to. I test drove an '03 GTO today, that's a fun car. Lincoln LS was nice, but gas mileage is a little low.
