Well, I finally started with the game programming. I have been an avid PC RPG fan since as far as I can remember, and I finally broke down and started learning to make my own game.

Heavily influenced by Bard's Tale, old Might and Magic and Wizardry games, I have started work on Elementium, and boy is this programming thing a daunting task. I have done all teh sound, art, etc for the game.

Character creation is done, and I made a video of creating a human wizard, it's up on youtube. If you guys have time, could you give it a view and give me some opinions? What should I change? Should I just give it up? Does it show any promise whatsoever? If interested check out this youtube link and bash away, LOL.

EDIT: Forgot the link..here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eS7J8Epv-c

Thanks all!

mal,

how do i say this nicely... i'll do my best:

please consider that everyone on this forum has seen a video game before. i personally don't appreciate sitting through a 6 minute video that explains things such as "split screens", the fact that wizards and different from warriors, and all the other "common-knowledge" kinda stuff. i was expecting, "oh, by the way. here's the right mouse button. it's on the right side of your mouse" any second. bottom line, keep the vids short and sweet. and, "sweet" means informative and worthy of mentioning. "really sweet" would be some visual eye-candy such as your wizard being swallowed whole by an orc shaman, complete with the final "burp!".

that being said, i'm interested in what you appear to be doing here. you mention in the video that this isn't the "same ol' thing" with updated graphics. so, what IS it then? looking at the char gen screen, there are a number of attributes and statistics. is the rules set fully developed? you mention that you've done "all the sound, art, etc". what's the "etc", and how close to "done" is it all?

i'll leave it at that, for now. here's a SS for anyone interested/who couldn't sit through the video:

hope the "bashing" wasn't too bad. oh, and try to get used to pronouncing the name of your game before the next "video"? i don't think you got through it once without stumbling.

Hey dude, looks like an interesting game, but I'm gonna have to second Virtual Nomad, I felt very very patronized throughout the video. Gamers know all that stuff by playing games...game makers know that stuff by making them, I think giving the intelligence of your reader more credit would work better in the promotion world. 'Special or interesting features' are what I think merits explanation.

But you score points in my book because under 'related videos' Eddie Izzard appeared and he's a legend.

Wouldn't mind seeing progress and how you tackle the ingame - your menu systems and layout did look good and it looks like you have a good system prepared...but it'll be interesting to see where you go from there.

Good luck with this.

Looks decent so far, but like Virtual Nomad and Seppuku have said, it was a bit dragged out, and seemed like you were trying to make what should have taken about 2 minutes to present into 6 minutes .

I love the kind of game you're basing this off of (BT, M&M, Wizardry, etc.) and I'd like to see a video of the gameplay. It's nice you have a working character generation screen and it looks very well done. But it's all about the gameplay and the main engine!

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!
