scholarships are usually given by the place you choose to study, if you look on Full Sail's website, they should have a section giving details on how to get a scholarship from them, same applies to any university/college/academy you may plan on going to

Depends on what country you're in. I know for a fact that in Australia, the UTS has a $39k over 3 years scholarship for its Game Development course... which I didn't get.

Scholarships are awarded by companies to pay you through university, at the promise you work for them X number of years afterwards.

As I think working in the game community is very popular, I don't think large game companies see the need to do this, unless you are exceptionally good.

Usually Universities offer grants for high achievers etc.

Holy damn! Wish I got that

Not necessarily.
My Uni offers quite a number of scholarships through its own funding.
For example, the scholarship I received for Honours is fully funded by the University's Scholarship foundation. (There were 10x$5000).

Also, of the ones that do require some form of work or pay-back, some only require part-time work whilst still attending University (generally working out to be no more than an entry-level pay rate for the hours you work).

If you can, look for a scholarship that doesn't require any pay-back, or if you can't, find one that is a general scholarship (offered by the local council usually) open to everyone regardless of study subjects, and ensure that the pay-back is worth it.

Sorry, should have made myself a bit clearer, I meant company awarded scholarships. My bad.

But you are right, there are lots of university granted schemes.

I get £2000 a year for maintaining an 80% average in exams.

Well i'm going to college next year for Video Gaming programming and I will get 1 year free, go me! @MultiyPlayer game- My best advice for you is go to college last year of high school if you do all your classes at college that year are free except for buying a $40 parking pass each semester. Hope this helps. All the best, Beastegargoyle

Well anyway have fun at fullsail. I got information from there it looked great, but was way to many thousands over my budget and I wasn't ready to be in debt so early in life that much money. Good luck. Best, Beastegargoyle
