Intro
Money Monsters is a game that 'The Crazy' and I are working on. But mostly me, he helps me when I have a question and stuff like that, and he made many of the original characters. I hope this constitutes as a worthy work in progress, as I understand people can be quite harsh about these things I've worked a lot and I am just starting programming but please treat me as you would any other forum member with constructive criticism and what-not.

Description
Money Monsters is a simple arcade like game aimed at a younger audience. (mainly for my lil' cousins and the kids I teach in sunday school) The aim of the game is to move back and forth collecting coins as they fall from the sky and zoom across the ground. There will be 7 playable monsters, 4 of which will have to be unlocked by completing levels. Other monsters will periodically appear and fly at you and try to kill you as well as powerups that add cool effects that can be beneficial or distracting. (one such obstacle is a nifty little trick of changing the fov so much that the whole game is upside down. It was really challenging with the controls inverted)

Monsters (Very much thanks to The Crazy for the models!)
1. Crazy Crab (100%)
2. Doomasaur (100%)
3. Tikatta (100%)
4. a Robot (30%)
5. a Ghost (50%)
6. a Fire Monster of some sort (0%)
7. I dont know what else

Levels
1. Egypt - Nighttime (100%)
2. Haunted World - Nighttime (50%)
3. Forest - Daytime (50%)
4.
5.
6.

That looks like a lot of fun.
Don't worry, for this project is, without a doubt, worthy of its very own thread.

Thanks for the comments guys!

zzz: Thanks! I have to give the crazy credit to that though as he implemented the bloom for me. And yep, this is my first game I have made a quick lil pong game and done a lot of tutorials but those don't count as actual games I don't think.

Something strange I noticed about the glow is the yellow guy has a giant blue glow around him but he's mostly yellow. It looks kind of cool but its a totally wrong color Has anyone encountered this? Its really weird!

I always thought that The Crazy's first name was Corey; now I'm confused.

It looks like fun.

Dared: Pretty much going back and forth collecting coins while avoiding enemies. Really simple

zzz: thanks!

The first enemy: a Robot Ghost. Below are high and low poly renders. I have a question though... The high poly version is around 1200 triangles while the low is 488. I'm not an advanced programmer so I'm not used to knowing what will slow the game down or not and am still deciding on which to use. Is 1200 damaging to fps?

I don't think it'd cause a huge problem, but since the models take up little space on the screen, I think you could easily get away with using the low-poly version.
Robot ghost looks very cool by the way.

The low-poly version will work fine. If you can(if this is an option in your modelling software), try to smooth the edges on it(without adding more polys).

Alright, I implemented the low poly ghost into the game. I'll try your suggestion zzz but now that I'm looking at it, and how fast it goes by in-game I'm thinking it might not even need any smoothing. Heres a screen:

Demo

Use the left and right Arrow keys to move. Enemies dont hurt and theres no limit as to how far you can go. Music may also be loud at first so be careful. It also never ends This is a very early demo I just felt you guys deserved to see a little more.

Just saw you posted the demo. Nice job! Definitely better than a lot of first projects around here Seems like it will be nice and challenging once you get some more enemies and collision detection in there. Keep up the good work!
