you can use the tempest plugin, wich is a P2P, UDP network plugin

you can use both at the same time, but MS requires one pc to function as server (this pc can be client @ the same time though!)

if you use just 1 comp ,you dont need multiplayer commands

if you mean or you cant build for example a 2 player FPS game, wich plays without a third server, then yes you can. A single pc has to be server, but it can be client at the same time too (connect to 127.0.0.1)

It sounds like you're describing a non-dedicated server. Many games have this option. Basically it's a server and a client rolled in to one. It's faster to use a non-dedicated server than it is to run a dedicated server and a client on the same computer, no matter how good your processor is.

i think what they were saying above is if you've ever played something along the lines of HALO online (on the pc anyway), a group of you:
1. enter chat together

2. whoever is first in there, or whoever "creates" the game room is the host

3. the host person can launch the game when ready.

4. every player is both a client and server in the respect that they receive in the data, and send out data.

I think this is referred to as [edit-] P2P - wait, im not sure what its called but its a very good method as if one player (the host) drops his connection or leaves the game, the game can take a pause briefly and assign a new host.

But this stuff is probably a bit over the top for a simple pong game, but something to keep in mind if you plan on making a game with more than 2 players..
