I've tried a lot of things all day and cannot get my loaded .x object (football helmet) to show any specular, etc. like the cone in the image.

[/href]

I've tried the "Set Object Specular" command, using the load modes, changing the light type, etc. Absolutely nothing works.

I'm creating the object in LightWave 7.5, converting it to .x with Right Hemisphere's Deep Exploration (it looks exactly the way it should in these programs, shading, specularity, etc.).

Any commands I'm leaving out. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

it would be best if you could make the model in .x format instead of converting it..a lot of conversion programs lose some of the lights and shading. i hope this helps.

thanks, pirate

Thanks pirate, actually before your post I had went back into the converter (Deep Exploration 2.1) and tried checking/unchecking combinations for all the exporting options.

I finally hit the right combination !

In case anyone uses DE, these are the options checkmarked on the .x export General tab (except for Textures, no other tabs used):

Texture Coords
Save materials
Save normals
No Frames (this was the culprit I think, never had it marked)
Turn to Left-hand system
Max points in polygon = 3

Hope this can help someone else, maybe even with a different converter.

Anyone know how I can get this to work with .x files exported from Blender?

I just figured out that LOW SPECULAR POWER has a larger specular effect than higher specular power. You want lots of specular do the following:

set object specular power cur_obj,0

If I use any power greater than 1 I see no specular effect at all !

@enderleit

I always load my blender models into LithUnwrap and use the Tools->Optimize Model.

I then save the model and it looks fine in DBPro.

Wings 3D exports x models with all the lovely shiny stuff intact.
