Have been looking to upgrade my old computer for a while. Been trying to do what everyone says it cheapest option. 'do it yourself' but kept finding it was dearer to buy bits and build, than buy. No matter what people think (I have no trade links so cannot get trade prices on parts. Maybe that would have been answer).
Still I have found this one and ordered. I would like to see anyone show me where you could buy parts to build this system anywhere near the price.

If they showed £999 I would force them to honour it but as I guess you were using the system builder thingy at cyberpower website that uses lots of scripts to upkeep an ongoing price, then maybe it was a technical problem.

However you picked all sorts of weird stuff on that pc that is well overpriced and not needed. I mean, who spends over £130 on a specialised gaming network card? And then £43 for a fan, £11 on 'pro' wiring, the list goes on.

Boo!

Darn, but you should have argued that the price displayed is the price to be payed and you could have got it for £999

I don't know how it works in the UK, but pricing errors are not a crime, and do happen.

It's an issue if it happens a lot or looks like it was done to do a bait and switch.

You can't fault this company for not honoring it

You should have argued the price as soon as you buy it is classed as a contrate for that price. They are the ones at fault for not listing the right price. Unless there is an outside force such as someone hacking the price database however they have to prove it.

I'll add something later on.

The good thing is that in UK, shops they have to sell the item to you. Even if it's priced wrong, for example I've bought:

> Stalker Collectors Edition for £7 (Meant to be £30+)
> An XBox 360 Premium for £29.99 (Was meant to be £299.99)

Not bad really

Also the build listed costs £2,141.15 with vat and shipping. Cost using overclockers uk. So the other company is charging £857.85 for building it. So someones getting ripped off.

Heres an idea building yourself £868 drinking money spare. Usally I charge £60 to build a PC starting to think I'm under cutting myself.

I'll add something later on.

That's not true, they can refuse to see the item to you but if they do sell it to you they have to sell it at listed price.

That's not quite true. They have to cancel the order and refund you. The customer is, of course, welcome to replace the order at the correct price.

I've just been reading up on pricing laws over the last hour

About as fun as reading the MS Eula... but it definitely was informative.

Under Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (DSRs)

"A contract is concluded when the consumer becomes bound to buy
something and the business becomes bound to supply it."

You brought the computer the second that E-mail saying £999 hit your mail box. Unless the consumer chooses to cancel in the time limit of 7 days after devilery. Therefore the company should supply it at the quoted price.

The Consumer Protection Act 1987

"makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader."

Got to love it how half our laws go agaist the other half. Makes it so easy to understand.

However you should look at the terms of the contract if they have a get out in the terms your fecked as they only have to give the money back. The Consumer Protection Act 1987 says that if the terms are unreasonable then they become void.

I'll add something later on.

The article I read states that if you are smart, you'll word your confirmation email to say your order has "processed", not to say your order has been "accepted".

Also, the terms of service should say that a contract is not created until you are billed or the item is shipped.

Very neat stuff

Yep that is right. It all depends on the wording. That why when I see the words contact/terms and condictions. I start reading very slowly. It took me a few hours to read MS EULA. I've hear of people signing over houses by mistake.

However in this case it depends on what the condictions cover and what the e-mail said. If they cover mis-prices then all good for them. If not I would make a clime agaist them. However I would still say that the service was not any good and contact trading standards.

I'll add something later on.

Well if you were in Australia they would have to sell the computer to you my law. My bro got A PC game for $8.00 when it was meant to be like $80!

It was obviously wrong. But I thought I would see as do badly need new computer.
Did say when they phoned to cancel saying I was the only one to have ordered it,that it would be great publicity if they let me have it for the price. That didn't work though.
It seems a bit grey in UK on this issue on internet, though I believe most have somewhere Errors and exceptions excluded to cover this in their terms and conditions. If it was a shop and they had priced it wrong theyy wouldn't have too sell me it for that price at till. Although some will had it happen in Game on a pc game that was mistakenly priced 4.99 instead of 34.99 they let me have it
Still would have been nice , at leasdt i had a hope for a couple of hours.

No offense, but that is nonsense. The shop is legally allowed to change the price before the purchase, as no "contracts" have been made.
If you trounce up to a counter, clutching a 360 with a 29.99 price tag on it, they will immediately put it right.

£2999. Strange. I need to study economy better.

I bought a similar machine:

. Motherboard: ASUS P5N-E SLI, or something like that. It has a great sound card and dual gigabit LAN integrated;
. Processor: Inter Core 2 Quad;
. Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500 Led;
. Memory: 8 gigabyte ddr2;
. HD: 250 gigabyte sata 2;
. Video card: nVidia 8800 GT 512;
. Power supply: A 850W one whose name I do not remember now;
. CD drive: an old and stagnated iOmega drive that I have for around two years.

Everything costed around U$1700.

Edit:
LCD Monitor, mouse and keyboard would rise the price to around US2200.

£2999!!!
Try http://www.scan.co.uk

Mine:
M/board : XFX 680LT SLI Intel Mobo
CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
RAM : 4Gig SLI ready
HD : Standard 7200rpm 120GB SATA
Graphics : Gigabyte 8800GT 512
PSU : 720W Standard
OS : Vista 64 Home Prem
DVD : Standard R/W
Tower : Standard but looks nice
Screen : Cibox 19" Widescreen TFT(sending back for new one - power went on this one)

All this for £830.60 VAT inc and carriage(I had speakers, mouse and k/board already) - 4 days to deliver and bar the TFT issue which is being replaced, no real complaints.

Make sure to check out the bargain page "Today Only Items" - the price would have been a further £130 if I had missed it...

If they realise. They can't really do much if you've already paid for it though, can they?

Well obviously, but no Idiot will sell a 360 for £29.99 . They'd scan it through, notice the error and correct. Its after purchase the price cannot be change (ie you ow more money), but Anonymous User was claiming that if the price is wrong, the shops can't change it before purchase... which is utter twoddle.

Some people are really stupid (but then there will always be people that wouldn't otherwise notice an error because they don't know what a 360 is). Besides, I've heard of this happening, so it does happen apparently.

When we bought our last PC we paid about the 10% of its price, probably because of a problem with their system as at the time France was converting to the Euro.
