Quite sudden and quite strange if you ask me; I haven't heard anything about him wanting to leave prior to this

http://www.developmag.com/news/29363/Phil-Harrison-to-leave-Sony-Studios

Official announcement (doesn't really explain why, only has Phil harping on about how well playstation is doing/how it has helped him)
http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/080225e.html

Not really much info on what grounds he's leaving etc. I presume it's probably not good, considering the speed at which he'll be out by (gone by the 29th, which is quite a pacey leave)

Could it be that the PS3 is so successful that people sacrifice their jobs to ensure its survival?

...or maybe not. This rings alarm bells in my opinion, what does everyone else think?

You kidding? Ken Kutagari almost commited Seppuku! (Feel free to look that up, then laugh, in that order.)

Feigning interest since 2005!

Well, he is being blamed for the lack of first-party Sony games in the PS3's first year. He also apparently publicly said that his Japanese bosses were too slow in adopting the small casual games like those so popular on the Wii (its never good to criticize your bosses).
The rumour is that he is heading for Atari, but we shall have to wait and see.

I don't think the speediness of his exit means anything. For all we know he could have given more notice but the public is just catching wind.

He has been with Sony for 15 years and maybe he just wants a change? Remember he's not the most liked talking head of a large corporate entity. Remember when he said people can sell their PCs after buying a PS3?

I really like Phill, he's a great speaker and have good humor. The only one who can go up against Reggie if you ask me. Kazuo Hirai is so boring. Sony is definately loosing their nr 1 public man.

Wasn't he one of the ones largely responsible for Sony's negative publicity right before and after the PS3 release though DA?

Not only that, but he left because the bosses' vision of making games was too diffrent from his (or sth. like this)

Make games, not war.
