Hey everyone, I've had no Internet for about a month now. The German phone system sucks. Germany sucks too (sorry fellow Germans, I'm sure that you don't!). We've had to get a lawyer to intervene but there has still been no progress.

In any event, I was hoping that someone could help me with a project. I am going to make a Powerpoint presentation about video game violence. I hope to get a couple videos of some extremely gratutitous violence. Short clips, maybe 20-30 seconds depicting absurdly violent and pointless acts of violence. I don't have any really violent PC games, so I'm hoping that some of you hard core PC gamers could help me out.

A WMV video would be great, medium resolution. If you do make said video I'll need it uploaded to some web server so that I can download it.

I won't be online much, but I plan to check my e-mail on Friday and again on Saturday for the purpose of my project. Thanks!!

So does the British phone system, at least around these parts.

Youtube probably has thousands, although you can't download from there, or can you?

Not true.

If you're in FF, straight after a video has finished downloading on YouTube, type about:cache in the address bar.
Get the directory to your cache from there, and open it up in Explorer (not IE). Order the files by date, and look for the large file (will have some random name without an extension). A 3min video is usually around 5MB.

Copy that somewhere, give it the extension .flv, and there you have it, the youtube video on your PC.

Of course, you'll need some flv codec to be able to play it.

Didn't know about that. Sounds cool, but I think it'd be easier and faster to just use on of the free apps to do it.

For Youtube, you can always use vixy.net.

You're not turning on us guys, are you? Games and violence?

you could use gears of war (chainsaw is pretty rediculously bloody and violent). and you could look up the "crazy german kid" that everyone has seen on youtube. i dont know if anyone really knows this, but he made the video of him going insane over a videogame to make fun of some politician that claimed videogames make children violent

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't get a chance to check my e-mail this weekend, so this is the first time I've been on in a while.

I'm downloading your file now Zaibatsu, thanks for putting that together for me. Can't wait to take a look at it.

@Mistrel -
SoF2 looks pretty cool, the blood is awesome. Nice pictures, I'll look for a video on Youtube.

I didn't know that you could download Youtube videos, I'll try it out. Regardless, I have something usable for the report now. My stance is that video games do indeed influence children and it should be very difficult for them to get the games. I really just wanted to gear it towards video games and I love having videos in my presentations. I love VG violence, but I'm not particularly looney so I don't see an issue for myself.

@Zaibatsu -
Those videos are great, thanks! Scarface is especially good. The recording quality is also great.

Everyone -
I have two more requests.

1 - Does anyone have Manhunt 2? I'd love a scene of pointless violence from it.

2. I got some Youtube FLV videos but I can't do anything with them, I don't have the codec and I can't even get onto Youtube on this stupid computer that I'm on right now. I just downloaded a converter but I'm a bit apprehensive about how effective it will be. Can someone convert say, two Youtube videos, of some expert talking about video game violence, into a usable format (like WMV)? The more popular the person doing the interview the better. I'd provide specific links to videos but I can't even do that right now. What a nightmare. Thanks everyone.

If you put the Youtube videos through vixy.net, it will convert them into neat little files of several formats. I've used it myself a few times.

You're welcome, If you want any more, just let me know, I might be able to find some other games given time to search through my library. I would have posted a video of a Fatality from Mortal Kombat Armageddon, but I have no way of recording from my PS2...

Yes I do, and to your disgust(probably, lol) I am working on a manhunt type game as a side project, I could send you some video from mine aswell... How long of a video do you want of manhunt 2?

EDIT: Do you want censored or uncensored? (the game was released with a blur effect to hide most grusome scenes) The version I own is censored but I can get some uncensored if necessary. I ask because the game wasnt released uncut so showing it like that in a project may make it less influential.

I think there's a firefox plugin that lets you download imbedded video.

Grand Theft Auto. Use the cheat codes to turn yourself into a hooker holding a chainsaw, then go chop down grandma.

Best way to download videos from Youtube is to use this site http://www.videoconvertx.com

You just type url and format what you want to convert it into. Then it downloads the video and sends message into your mail when converting is ready ITS really fast and awesome!

Basically i found http://www.vixy.net slower and sometimes it even dint convert my videos and so on.. But i still use it if VideoConvertX.com stops from working.

Also if you want to convert file formats and not download those stupid programs there is a fantastic site!

http://media-convert.net/

That site is just amazing! You can convert a lot of formats

The project went great, thanks for the help guys! The online Youtube converters just would not work for me so I actually bought a piece of software to do it, all of the free stand alone pieces of software that were free required Internet to download the ads, which of course means I can't use them. I was in a rush and realized too late that the software I paid $29 was only to convert videos into .flv, pretty useless for what I was doing. But, my son's PSP video converter did the trick brilliantly. I was able to include several Youtube videos. With Zaibatsu's high res videos and some from Youtube I had plenty to use.

[Edit]
I hate to keep everyone in the dark, I had to take a two week break from GH. We have a family friend coming to live with us and I've had to furnish a room and prepare the house in general, it's been pretty crazy. A break is sometimes good, except that this is going to put me on the 17 year mark for the release of this damned game. I'm going to start back on it this coming Monday.

I use SUPER to convert video file formats.

Free, doesn't require the internet, no ads, etc, etc.

The only thing is the start-up time is a little slow, but only on my PC

If you get the new free version of realplayer you can download almost all videos (including youtube ones) with a simple right click. It even has a nice download manager for you to use. So if you watch a video and want it offline just right-click and download.

Glad to hear it, and you're welcome. Glad to offer my services (plus it was a good excuse to go through all my disks and separate the games, something I've been meaning to do for a while.)

how about that first bit in ravenholm in hl2, where the guy is hanging from a tree, there is blood everywhere and there are those dead people with saws cut in to their chest?
