Well as i speak my mb temp is at 67degrees, it is quite warm in the room itself. The strange thing is that its been like that for ages, and i havent thought much of it. My motherboard is an asus m2n-sli deluxe. Ive tried repasting the heat sync, no effect. I dont understand how it can be so hot, yet last. Or is this to hot??

Could it be because ive got an overclocked BFG 8800 gpu, right above the north bridge?

Is that 68 degrees fahrenheit, or celcius?

Check your task manager too - sometimes you get processes sitting in the background on low priority (so you dont notice them so much) and they can be running at 100%... 70C is rather high - but it is still within the limits of the CPU if its running at max (I believe most CPU's are rated to 80C+)

Its 67degrees Celcius, and its the motherboard not the cpu

67c isnt too hot. What temp does the cpu idle at? If you can bring that down you will bring down the MB temp. When you said you repasted the heatsink, what did you use. I recommend Arctic Silver 5. I brought my cpu and mb temps down by 15c by using that instead of inferior/stock crap.

Also 8800's run hot so get some proper ventilation for the case and you might want to use riva tuner 2.06 to handle fan duty cycle on the video card as the nv drivers are faulty. I recently went thru this whole drama and posted about it in this forum.

Oh ok, thanks cattlerustler. I thought the motherboard tempreature should be about 30degrees.

Im not saying it couldnt be lower, but it will usually fall in line with the cpu temp depending on how/where its measured for that mobo.

my cpu used to idle in mid 60's/ same for mobo. after arctic silver 5 i hover at 50

60 degrees is a bit high, but not for an older generating processor per se. It could also easily be a faulty sensor, or a sensor reading the northbridge which can get very hot.

If you're overclocking the fsb speed over the mobo's specs, you should get a fan on the northbridge cooler.

Hurray for teh logd!

Well its a bit weird, because i have an arctic square cooler on my cpu, and idles at 30degreesC, the mb is nearly double, but as long as 67 is ok for the mb, then cool.

it is and it isn't. 67 is kind of absurd to tell you the truth, especially if your cpu is 30. What's on your northbridge, have you tried re-seating it?

I almost think it's just a faulty sensor.

Yeah, my whole PC case idles at 28.3 degrees, almost never changing to more than 30.
