lol isn't anyone gonna work on the network framework - i mean that'll be the most important thing to develop alongside whoever makes the controls and character positioning system

this isn't gonna be multiplayer... or at least my impression was that the main part was Single player with a MP option. Guess I was wrong. Anyway, I can DRAW and DESIGN most of the arenas, but someone else will have to model them. So are these gonna be like gladiator arenas or like Quake arenas? (a big open space or a maze of rooms and such)

Perhaps we should have a variety of levels. I'm rather old too, I just wasn't very prolific. Providing I supply the model, I'd like to enter my avatar. What form shall the arena maps take? BSP? I suppose I could give it a shot, but I think we should have arena input from a variety of people to create a conglomerate of levels.

This has "Fiasco" written all over it.

well when devin' a level i always like to sketch it up first, mainly cause i never work alone and it helps me keep track of a memory that fades fast

probably a good idea for a bunch of you to sketch up what you'd like to see, i mean we'll kinda have a techy egyptian theme won't we cause of it being darkbasic

its a good idea to sketch anything you do on a computer out first... even programs... or at least make yourself one of those... =\ finding word... structered program thingys (i found it)

That's my intention. I guess I'll start with a pure open gladiator type arena, and work from there. Anyway, Mirthin, your welcome, I just don't remember you, so I didn't list you. Doesn't mean you aren't worthy

I guess really anyone can enter, because even if they're noobs now, they'll eventually become oldbies.

It'd be fun, to have a game, where people just sign in, with there own models of themselfs and fight with whoever's on, but that won't work so...
Who's definately in the game? There are alot of models to do, are there any modellers? I can design what the people will look like, they should have distinguising features too...
"I guess really anyone can enter, because even if they're noobs now, they'll eventually become oldbies." Cool, can I enter?

lol... could have a "WhipperSnapper" addon model pack, give the newbies something to do - make a model of yourself

as far as the models go it is a good point, really need to settle on formats - so people can get to work leaving the coders to do what they do best and make a sweet Engine

i mean obviously the world is to be BSP, but what version - Quake3 perhaps?
Objects - how will animations be done and such? Will it be an RLE style like Quake's or Skeletal Based like HalfLife

Oh oh so many questions ... boyz in planning best get thier thinkin' caps on (not a literal term )

Yup, the world will most definitely be BSP, and Quake 3 might just be the best bet yet (considering most people like it, including myself! hehe!)

And since it have the feeling of Quake, why not we proceed for the RLE style? I mean, the animation in HalfLife and CounterStrike are fun to look at and given the action in hand, it does provide good movements & mood, but hey, so does Quake! It got its own animation, rendering, and bodyparts positioning!

Denki! I know how powerful u r dude! Don't be so modest! U r always welcome to join in the bandwagon!

By the way guyz, I've done a draft out the initial game plan (plus reports based on this forum) for this project. So do you want me to send to each of your specific emails, so that you may choose what you want to do, or should I just post it on this forum? Its kinda of 3 pages in MS Words. As always, if I did or say anything wrong, please forgive me, I came in peace to Earth, I meant no harm to any Earthlings! And once you've read the plan, suggestions are always welcome!

p.s. - i've got Raps, DarthPuff, Denki & Mirthin's emails address, does Nazca wants to help? How about u Raven, wanna read the plan? Just wanna know what u think?

oki, well only gripe i have with RLE style is the data required - however how about this as the format ->
http://members.lycos.co.uk/timesaga/quake2pro.txt

I mean i could actually probably make up a far better format in a few days - but that should allow you to have Quake3 Style stuff but allow for the animations to be seperate from the model parts, something that always peeved me about Quake3 as even though everything was in seperate MD3's they all had to use the exact same time sheet. That'll also allow for you to setup a function to access the animation quite simply through a name rather than frames

upload the plan for us to read over - email me where at fubarmt@eidosnet.co.uk please don't email to that address thou, as Norton always disables all of the attachments (god knows why!)

oh, never thought of that. Well if the worlds will be bsp I could probably take care of that. Of course, they would have to be HL maps, because I don't have quake.

So if they were HL maps, I could model the worlds, do the texture etc.

Okie guyz! I've uploaded the initial game layout/plan at this address::

http://www.geocities.com/darkblitz8000/Layout.html

If there's any updates to the ones inside the plans, just(like example, implementing HL maps, rather than Quake), u are most welcome to proceed with the ones u have decided. Doesn't really HAVE to follow the plan, because as development process goes, things may change here & there. I'll update again the plan around every week.

rottbott.. erm nope mwhahaa
the plan is a little hard to read, atleast to me

my next suggestion is actually write it like a todo list...
- Menu
-- Options
--- Resolution
--- Colour Res
--- Window or FullScreen

etc this would help alot of us if anyone is to code DBpro as we can then have a todo list to insert and know more of what is required.

i'll try and sort out better formats for you to use, that header was just an adaption of Quake2 MD2 which i tested just to make sure it worked prior. I can make an exporter for Milkshape, so once you know exactly what you need in the model format i'll make it, the exporter and a loader too

I remember rottbott. I'll draw up a few plans in floorplan 3D. It's old, it's cheap, it works.
