Wasn't there something called "Smackbook" or something silly that responded to rapid movement, and changed the screen? Would've been interesting in a car/boat/plane.

Do the new mac books come with an automatic orientation detector or something? If so thats awesome... lots of possibilities for games there.

Yes, such as Drop Your Mac Book While Trying to Play With It. I can see it being a best seller.

It could make for the best fishtank screensaver ever - imagine getting sick of your fishes then simply tipping them out!, or shaking them when they misbehave (can a fish misbehave?).

Maybe it's a feature of the laptop, like when it thinks it's falling, it'll try and 'park' the HD, save your work, eject a parachute, stuff like that.

less is more, but if less is more how you keeping score?

Someone in the comments said that the macbooks have a motion detector, but then who knows. It's a youtube comment. That's pretty awesome though

MacBook's have a gyroscopic motion sensor which is intended, as VanB said, for detecting sudden movement and parking the hard disk for safety. Its a BRILLIANT idea and it wouldn't surprise me if other manufacturers did it too as Gyro's are SO cheap now.

There is also another side effect of the Gyro sensor which isn't quite as cool as this Newton Virus - its called SmackBook. It basically allows you to "tap" (or smack) the side of your screen and the desktop will switch to another desktop (if you use multiple desktops). The problem I found with it was that if I used my laptop on my lap, I couldn't hold it still enough and it kept changing screens.

That video's cool, they should install some of that on HandHeld gaming systems as a different controller option, (Like in racing), all you'd have to do is rotate the camera to match so the picture is always upright

Wipeout game like that would be cool

They did that with the DS didnt they? There was some kirby game where you controlled kirby by moving the DS around, he'd roll like a marble.

the problem with those kinds of games on a mobile device is that you look like a complete moron on the the 0732 commuter train in to London... Standing there tilting side to side, shouting "GO ON, GET IN THERE!"

It really annoys other commuters

I wonder if they could give laptops a "shock absorption" system with this. Like as the computer shakes around, the screen display moves to correspond with it, dampening the movement making it easier to focus on.
