This tank has authentic Russian markings, paint etc and now has an automated revolving turret that shoots at you.

Ive tried hard to lower the polycount of the model. It is in 2 pieces (main body and turret). So you would just need to place the turret ontop of the tank body. Shoots bazooka bullets at you and uses the simple "strafe" and Snipe.fpi" scripts.

***One note though and worth mentioning. When you are standing really close to the tank and it fires upon you, the turret disappears for some reason or just stops animating. When you are at a normal distance away from it, it will work fine. This is a work in progress, it will get better.

Hopefully the polycount is at a more manageable level, and all objects that make up the model have now been merged and welded. If you have any problems then post here.

I hope you enjoy it. Its different and has lots of good potential to be expanded upon. Comments are appreciated! Like it, hate it...whatever...then let me know.

Enjoy!

Total objects for main body: 8, surfaces: 2283, vertices: 1489.
Total objects for turret: 5, surfaces: 224, vertices: 295, total pollies for turret = 11.638117.

Quote "and again....????"

And again..Model is made using AC3D.
Total objects for main body: 8, surfaces: 2283, vertices: 1489.
Total objects for turret: 5, surfaces: 224, vertices: 295, total pollies for turret = 11.638117.

I wish AC3D had a good "polygon counter". At least one that I could understand.

PS...know of any good FREE polygon counters, that will count the # of pollies in my ac3d model? They shouldn't be that high after all the reductions that Ive done to it, and it still looks ok.

I reduce fine with AC3D maybe you just must reduce to 90 % and further in little steps..

Hello Dark Jaquar Flame.
Believe me dude...I have. Its down to the point that if I reduced any more, it'd wreck the model. I dont know why evryones complaining about the polycount all the time. Its really not that high considering the size of the turret is just around 11 polygons.

Id like to know if anyone downloaded and or had any probs with it yet. The only thing I can see that is kinda screwy with it is that in its present form, you have to place the turret on top of the body. It'd be nice if I could just animate the entire thing in Fragmotion. Then it would be easier to just pick it up and drop it in the world instead of having two pieces.

...let me translate:

In AC3D, the surfaces listed are the polys.

So, this model uses 2283 polys in the main body, and 224 polys in the turret. Thst's grand total of 2507 polys used in this model.

That's not too bad at all, especially with the recent v1.08 updates. Personally, I like to try to keep my models near the 2000 poly mark, and this tank isn't too far off from that.

ash grinder, your stuff is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the offering.

...if there's no collision issues, that probably won't be a huge problem.

Did you lineup everything, so users can use the B KEY function, to pop them together? If not, give me a little time, and I'll do that, and post the alteration here.

I use FragMOTION. Let me see if I can merge the two into one animated model. No guarantees.

Thanks,

Seth Black

I'm glad you like it everyone . It gives me alot of satisfaction offering stuff for the FPSC Community. I now know how to account for the polycount thanks to you guys. This is more appreciated than anything. 'Cause now I can focus wholeheartedly on just making the models look waaaay better.

I didn't realise before that that was how you tally up the count in AC3D. Now with this realised, I can now concentrate on finishing that TigerTank and getting the pollies down on that one too. [[I made a Coca-Cola fridge last night (with an animated door). Kinda funny because...it has a head inside it when you open the door to it, hee!!]]

ps: It also seems to me that better graphics are the real key to making a great model too. The company behind AC3D says that graphics in a lowpoly model are the key to producing fantastic looking results.

...glad you're getting hang of things, with AC3D.

Wow. The fridge sounds really cool. Were you planning on posting that?

Absolutely true about the textures. You can make a 10,000 poly masterpiece, but if the textures are bad, the model will end up looking terrible.

On the otherhand, a moderate to low poly model that uses a good UV map, and higher res texture, will look really good...often much better than the model illustrated in the example above.

Quality over quantity, always wins out...

I thank you for the model and I would really love this except for one thing. I'm not getting any texture for the turret. Have texture for the tank tho. There is texture in the map editor but not when I run the game in test mode. When I copied everything over except for the bin files. I did copy the DBO file for both tank and turret.

can the tank move about or does it just sit still?

Hey Seth.
Yeah the fridge is coming along nice, but for one thing. As you know Ive been using Fragmotion to do some of the animations lately, but still having probs animating. I mean...importing a single model over to it, then trying to import a second one (say the fridge door) and animating just the door piece. It does look cooool though.

Were you able to try the T34 out in-game yet? If so, was it working ok? With everything showing up reasonably good? Thanks Seth appreciate this.

Hi Flatlander
Well its not going to work without the bin files. You just need to move the entire RussianT34 'folder' and place it in your user folder in your entities directory. Thats' it.

Then because the tank is in two pieces, you would need to just align it on top of the main body (Im working on better alignment as we speak, so users can just use the bkey so it will connect and lineup for you automatically). Im re-uploading the entire model here on the forum (just in case I missed something the first time around). Its available below.
-----------

Hi Fallen One,
No, the tank body itself doesn't move, just the turret. [In a way this is good because you could perhaps just position the body in game at a certain point where you need it, then move the turret ontop of it].
So as an example, say you come around a corner then the tank would see you and start shooting at you. You'd have to kill the tank before you could go on, maybe to the next level?! I don't think that it would shoot until it saw you.

PS:
By the way everyone, I have re-uploaded the zip here at the bottom with a few changes, nothing serious.
